Pros:None for me
Cons:Extreme redness, peeling, irritation, severe acne breakout
Bottom Line:After reading about other people's success with Tazorac, I've decided I may have had a bad reaction. My face turned bright red- I mean RED and stayed that way- very embarrassing. Big cystic acne developed. My face peeled constantly- so much so that I looked worse with makeup. My face was dry and flaky but seemed to produce more oil. I tried it for several months before switching to Differin. Differin worked perfect for me.

Pros:Started to clear up my acne at first
Cons:Made my skin dry, itchy, and red. I had a reaction to it, and it brought on breakouts. Not worth your beautiful skin.
Bottom Line:It's terrible for anyone with sensitive, sallow skin. It did not help my acne. As soon as I stopped using it, my skin got much much better. Less redness and less pimples.

Pros:seems to work, cheap because of insurance
Cons:not so great in the beginning, may burn at first and is extremely drying (before your skin gets used to it)
Bottom Line:I began using tazorac about a month or so ago. I started and used it for a few days, then stopped because it burnt so bad (made my face itch) and made me break out worse. Just recently, maybe 3 days ago, I began using it again and am not experiencing the same effects I did before. When I shower, I wash my face with St. Ive's face wash for acne prone skin, apply my oil-free moisturizer and rinse it off (yes, I rinse it off!). When I'm all done and my face is dry I apply a small bit of tazorac on my face before bed (only once daily). Like a pea size on my forehead (where it's the worst for me), on the sides of my nose, above my mouth, and near my hairline. It doesn't burn at all anymore and I think I am seeing positive effects.
But one of the best tips I can give anyone is BE GENTLE with your face- don't scrub hard. And wear oil-free makeup as I do. Good luck!

Pros:It starts out good, severe acne gets better but it doesnt completely go away. Scars start to blend in but it eventually stops.
Cons:Face peels and looks oily at night, rubs off on pillow if its still oily when u go to sleep. Took way too long to start to work.
Bottom Line:Ive used this for a couple months and it started out well- getting rid of about 1/2 my acne and lowered its severity. But it takes long to work so give it time. I still havent gotten rid of mine completely but im hoping it will go away eventually. If it doesnt start to work within the first 3 weeks stop using it and find something else.

Pros:Clears the skin, minimizes pimples, evens tone.
Cons:OILY skin, especially if you are a women who wears makeup, even a small amount. Dryness, even burns if you are not careful!
Bottom Line:I have only been using Tazorac for 3 weeks and already see a difference. At first I was like what the...I even peeled and I am a dark complexion black woman, I've never peeled before. But after a couple of days I have seen a dramatic difference. I'm still not 100% clear but very optimistic.
My derm instructed me to use Taz along with taking doxocyline one in the am and one right before bed. As with everyone else I have read, I mositurize w/ Cetaphil let it do it's thing for 30minutes before applying the Taz and then go to bed. Every morning I wake up looking forward to looking in the mirror and seeing more results.

Pros:It did clear up my skin after Murad MESSSSSED it up horribly.
Cons:Really pricey. Burning sensation right after application.
Bottom Line:I'm 25 and have had acne since high school. I read reviews for Murad online, and decided to try it, and that was the biggest mistake of my life. It made my skin 100X worse. Tazorac helped clear it up, but my skin has never been 100% clear. I've been using Tazorac for a year now, along with Doxycycline. While it has controlled my acne, I still always have breakouts on my cheeks. Also, my skin is very oily...i'm not sure if this has a connection to Tazorac though.

I gave this product a 4 because it did help, but it hasn't cleared my skin completely.

Pros:Works fast
Cons:None, except for maybe the price.
Bottom Line:I've been using Avage for a little over 2 months. It's been great! I use it in conjunction with spironolactone and my face has improved dramatically. I've been on tons of prescriptions, including Accutane, and none have completely controlled the cystic acne I started to get after the birth of my daughter (13 years ago!!!!). My derm wrote me a script for it, and it was $168!!!! When I go see him, I'm going to ask for Tazorac cream instead because it seems to be cheaper (probably because it's not marketed for anti-aging) even though it has the exact same ingredients. But, I'll continue to use this as long as possible. I've seen a great improvement in the clarity and texture of my skin.

Pros:I did notice a slight difference overnight, and now after using it for over a year, my acne has improved dramatically. I used it in the evening with BenzaClin in the morning.
Cons:I have very oily skin, and for about the first six months it made it more oily. Then in winter it dried my skin out so bad I had to use a lot of moisturizer in the morning so that I could put makeup on, then later in the day the dryness would go away
Bottom Line:I recommend this highly. It has indeed worked wonders. This is especially good if you don't already have dry or oily skin. With insurance, one rather large tube only cost me about $20, but without insurance it would have cost almost $300. A tube lasts for about 6 months, or longer depending on how much and how often you use it.
