Immediately after treatment:
- A low level of pain or a burning sensation is present during and immediately after bipolar fractional radiofrequency therapy. After treatment, the skin will be red and in some cases swollen.
- There is no need to apply a special dressing after bipolar fractional radiofrequency. The use of a moisturizer or application of ice packs in the day or two following treatment may be recommended to reduce swelling and discomfort.
- After treatment, it is important to avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen for a couple of weeks. Avoid makeup for 24 hours after the treatment.
Days and weeks after treatment:
- Skin redness and swelling are mild and disappear within 5 days at most.
- Crusts may form as soon as 1 day after the treatment and subside within 3 to 7 days.
- During this time, patients should continue to avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen.
Longer term:
- There is usually no long-term recovery process after treatment with bipolar fractional radiofrequency devices.
- It is important to use sunscreen whenever the skin is exposed to the sun until you are completely finished with all of your treatment sessions and your skin has healed from your final treatment session.
