Microneedling with Platelet-rich Plasma

Compare To Other Treatments

Immediately after treatment:

  • Pain or a burning sensation is often present during and immediately after microneedling with PRP treatment. After treatment, the skin will be red and swollen and may bleed. The redness and swelling are normally mild and disappear in 1 to 3 days at most.
  • There is no need to apply a special dressing after the procedure. Sometimes, gentle pressure with gauze is applied to stop the pinpoint bleeding.
  • Your doctor might also advise you to avoid skin products with alcohol after the treatment.
  • Your doctor may also advise against intense sweating. Thus, make sure to schedule your workout at least 2 to 3 days after the treatment.
  • After treatment, it is important to avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen until the skin is completely healed.

Days and weeks after treatment:

  • Skin redness and swelling may persist for up to 3 days at most. When the skin heals, crusts may form.
  • Your doctor may recommend using a moisturizer in the day or two following treatment.
  • It is important to use sunscreen whenever the skin is exposed to the sun until you are completely finished with all of your treatment sessions and your skin has healed from your final treatment session.

Longer term:

  • Long-term side effects are rare but may include hyperpigmentation (skin darkening), which is more common in darker-skinned individuals.
  • It is important to use sunscreen whenever the skin is exposed to the sun until you are completely finished with all of your treatment sessions and your skin has healed from your final treatment session.
