Wow this shit is crazy. I took 300mg at 12:40, and around 2:30 I thought to myself...wow my saliva feels watery (like during a nausea spell), and then I looked at my arms and bam! red and rashy allllll over. Looks kind of gross/cool.

HOw long did it take for the side effects/ redness to go away?

I just took a Niacin tablet 500 mg the Flush kind around 5 min ago.

About 40 minutes. It lasted longer than I thought, but before I knew it it just kind of fades away very quickly.

Wait is the 500mg your first dose? If it is, then boy will you be in for a flush. The bottle I have is in 100mg dosages.

So considering the guy in the adult acne post said he took the " no-flsuh" kind, but people here seem to be taking the "flush" kind, what's the better one?

Best of luck to all.

Yeah so yesterday i took my first pill. 500 mg flush kind. It took about an hour for effects to come through. But it wasnt bad at all. My feet itched and my hears felt hella hot and heavy, but thats about it. NO redness at all.

So yeah, I will continue taking it and will be posting up results.

Hmm, I'm starting to think that Niacin works for people whose acne is caused by problems in metabolism, while Zinc works for people whose acne is caused by hormonal problems.

Indeed my bottle of niacin describes itself as "metabolism support".

"...released from inositol hexanicotinate by the body's own enzymes. Niacin nutritionally supports cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range."

How much is recommended as the max/day? Is 500mg just enough?

So how many times a day should I take them and should I use anything else while I'm on them?

My 500 mg bottle "flush kind" says to take a tablet once a day. So, that's what I'm doing.

Just to update you guys, have been taking niacin for a week. All my current acne has healed. I have no active spots right now(thank god), but i still have a good amount of blackheads on my forehead. I am very thankful for niacin though, now im able to go to school without worrying about what my acne looks like. And the best part is i went to the movies yesterday and had an assload of candy (reese's, hersheys chocoloate, popcorn with butter) and i did not break out. My redness has been reduced about 70% and its getting better everyday.

I hope to god that this continues working...thanks for posting this OP

Great stuff :)

But were you taking the flush or no-flush type again?

I'd be interested to hear an update from people who've been on it over a month or two tho.

I am taking nature valley 500 mg NO-flush niacin. I too would like to see if these results will last, hopefully my body does not build a tolerance.

Great, yeah the OP in the other thread was using no-flush aswell.... Keep the updates coming tho bro thanks. There does tend to be a "honeymoon" period with new stuff IME. Hopefully it will continue to work for you tho.

For anyone who's interested, I found an excerpt from a book (not a website, which are usually fairly unreliable) on Google Books explaining how B vitamins (Niacin is B3) can regulate hormones, especially in women, and it mentions an effect on hormonal premenstrual acne.

EDIT: I guess I can't post links, but the books is called the estrogen alternative. Pg. 170 on the google books excerpt is what I was looking at.

I posted in the other thread, but I also had fast results with Niacin, like within a week I had no new breakouts and my acne was healing fast. I take 500 mg of no-flush niacin daily.

Also, from what I've read, don't take time-release Niacin. It seems to be what causes liver problems. My Niacin bottle says you shouldn't take more than 500 mg a day unless you are under a doctor's supervision, so it's just something to be aware of. If you can't find no-flush and don't like the flush side effects, then try taking smaller doses throughout the day instead of one big dose.

Well im not a girl, so this book is not for me...I hope the Niacin is not depleting my test levels, if so I am going to stop immediately. I would rather have acne than be an estrogen filled panzy...screw that.

Haha, I don't think the effect applies to men. It said it has something to do with converting estrogen into some other compound so it doesn't build up in the body. If you don't already have it in there I don't think it makes it or anything! But I don't really know :)

I think I might drive down to CVS tomorrow and see if I can get my hands on this stuff. I've been reading up on it and there seem to be no serious side effects (besides the flush) if it's taken in the instant-release, 500mg-or-under form. And apparently it's helped a lot of people with their acne. Sounds too good to be true, but it's worth a shot.

EDIT: On the older niacin thread they were talking about a potential for developing rosacea in the long run, from the constant flushing? What's that all about?

Like with any higher than normal dosing of a B-vitamin, is it advisable to supplement with a B-complex?
