Ok, so I've read through the whole thing, started stealing boyfriend's niacin (l'originale - flush) last night. :D

Going to ease into it, not sure if this is actually the case, but it seemed like the people who slowly brought their doses up to 500mg had a better time with consistent results, as opposed to a more up/down experience.

Currently: 100mg twice a day, with food. Will keep this up for a week, then up to 200mg twice a day.

Studies show that the best form of niacin for acne is Nicotinamide [also known as niacinamide] combined with 30 mg of zinc.

I belive that you can still get the prescription drug called "Nicomide" which contains 750mg of nicotamide, zinc, copper, and folic acid.

"Nicotinamide has demonstrated anti-inflammatory actions that may be of benefit to patients with inflammatory skin conditions.[4] These conditions include acne vulgaris, and the compound can suppress antigen-induced, lymphocytic transformation and inhibit 3'-5' cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase. Nicotinamide has demonstrated the ability to block the inflammatory actions of iodides known to precipitate or exacerbate inflammatory acne."

Studies show that this stuff is much safer than the "classic" niacin and it is safe up to 3 grams/daily. I guess that 500mg of Nicotinamide taken with 30mg of zinc should be enough for skin issues.

I don't know if it will work for everyone [even isotretinoin don't work for everyone], but this stuff is definitely "scientifically proven".

I took Niacin and it made flush like CRAZY. I'm discontinuing this because I don't think this will lead to the cure of acne...

Haha! I thought this was so funny... How do you know if you don't try it for a while? I mean honestly, it's a vitamin...are you anticipating harm? How long do you usually try something before you give up?

You will learn to love the flush, it does open your pores but thats the only down side to it. It is seriously the best anti-inflammatory ive ever tried and it makes my eyes turn a wonderful shade of blue.

Its a that the effect is so short term as your body gets used to it. I tend to have niacin for a month and then go off it for two months as the effects just ware off eventually.

But, do you think that it is safe to thwart the body this way on a frequent basis? I only feel as if my blood vessels will burst or get too flexible one day... It just doesn't feel "right" or normal.

I usually try something for a short period of time - that's true that I SHOULD give something more time, but I just don't feel like its a CURE? it's always more of an improvement on a condition. Neither am I too sure if Acne is something you Have, or you NEVER have.

But, some of my friends' skin give me the impression that there is a cure - because no matter how little vitamin they get, or how many junk food they consume, they just don't even seem to break out! And even if they do, its soo unnoticeable you just want to stab that person (metaphorically...)

Maybe lower the dosage? I'm only taking 100mg, I get a mild hot feeling in my face and arms, but it's no where near as intense as 'unnatural.'

I think when people propose diet as a cure, it's because it's occurred to them that acne isn't really a disease in of itself, but a symptom of a larger, internal issue. Maybe you've noticed that topical treatments don't work - if it was a purely skin issue, they would clear it all right up! But they don't - they work for a little while, then things go back to normal, sometimes worse.

Regarding the time you spend trying these things out, switching rapidly from one thing to another may be jarring to the system, and may actually do more harm than good. This is going to be a long and difficult healing process, often taking a lot of discipline and hard work. The comparative analogy I like to use is a broken arm - are you going to be impatient with the cast, taking it off before the bone's set? How long does it take to heal something inside you? Weeks, months, years!

I have friends like yours, and it frustrates me to high hell as well. But that fact is, you're not them, and you have acne. Responsibility must be taken for that, even though it's not your fault.

I tried Niacin 100mg last night after dinner and the flush started at my hands and made it half way up my forearms. That was it... lol! I'm assuming I should keep taking it on a full stomach.

I actually think you've got it spot on here. It does say on the label that the flush is perfectly safe BUT i have been taking supplements for a year and for the most part they havent worked for me. Niacin was the only one that i saw incredible results with but its short term. Another good one was mixing chromium with Cinnamon which helped by about 40 % but thats all. I'm taking Vitamin A, Vitamin d3, Zinc and Cod liver Oil and when i finish these i'm giving up altogether because this route is expensive and has not helped me a lot, plus as you say i wonder how safe it is despite everything.

By the way you can get non flush niacin and it has been just as effective for me, if not more so seening as how the best acne clearing results i ever had was when i first started taking the non flush kind.

I just started taking a stress b-complex (contains a lot of niacin in the form of niacinamide, as well as the right ratio of zinc and copper and a few other b-vitamins), and my pee is turning bright green. Should I be concerned?

Also, has anyone read anything about topical niacinamide?

I take 50mg of zinc a day.. would it be ok to include this aswell, or take it alone?

Also, what has this done to people with acne scars or red acne marks? I have lots of red acne marks. Will it help?

Yes, you can take zinc and niacin together. :)

Also, I upped it to 100mg 2x per day today. I wasn't getting a flush at all with the 100mg once per day. I might up to 100mg in the morning and 200 in the morning.

So I know the green urine means that a lot of niacin is passing through my body unabsorbed, but I'm wondering: should I take less, or is there something I can do to improve absorption? I take it after a meal, along with fish oil. The b-complex I take contains:

Vitamin C: 500 mg

Vitamin E: 30 IU

Thiamin: 10 mg

Riboflavin: 10 mg

Niacin (niacinamide): 100 mg

B6: 5 mg

Folic Acid: 400 mcg

B12: 12 mcg

Biotin: 45 mcg

Pantothenic Acid: 20 mg

Zinc: 24 mg

Copper: 3 mg
