Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone can recommend any shower gel that might help with my body acne? I use Epiduo on my face but not on my body and even though the antibiotics and Dianette I'm on have helped clear most of my body acne up I do still get some really painful cysts here and there. My lower back and upper arms seem to be particularly persistent so any suggestions for something that could help get those areas under control would be much appreciated! smile.png

The Body Shop does a tea tree oil line for acne, and there is a shower gel. I'm not sure how effective TTO is on cysts though, but it couldn't hurt!

Thanks for the suggestion! I might give that a go. :)

MoonLitRiver,

I'm not sure how well cysts react to salicylic acid, but Neutrogena's pink grapefruit body wash keeps my body smooth and clear. It smells very nice and uplifting. Depending on what your skin works better with, I might try benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment and leave it on the acne for 10 minutes so the bp can do its magic.

Thanks SunnySarah! I've actually been using Neutrogena's pink grapefruit facial wash as a shower gel for the past month or so (I couldn't find anywhere that sold a body one) but sadly it hasn't done anything much for me yet. sad.png I'm not that surprised because salicylic acid did absolutely nothing for the acne on my face when I tried it either. I might try your suggestion of using benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment though. I've never used it on my body because of the worry that it will stain my clothes but it might be alright if I wash it off after ten minutes or so. I'll see how it goes!

Best of luck MoonLitRiver! If you hop in the shower (so your skin is wet )and apply the bp (I've used panoxyl 10%), then step out of the shower and read a magazine for 10 minutes, it makes the time pass. haha

Hey, just wondering if anyone else has any suggestions on this? Still being plagued by body cysts and using a shower gel with salicylic acid hasn't helped at all. :(

My old dermatologists told me to shower with aveeno body wash (the regular oatmeal one) and to just shower under 5 mins with lukewarm water. It's worth a try!

Wish you the best of luck :)

I've heard washing with Head and Shoulders also is helpful for back acne. You could also try black soap body wash for a more natural approach. I use black soap as a face wash and prefer it over all the others.

Also, if you don't like to mess with BP, try spot treating with glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is what I use to keep acne away. If I have a spot coming up, I simply apply some directly to the spot. I find the spots retreat within a day or two and normally do not even ever come to a head. I use a 12% gel formula, but Acne.org's formula should be adequate for the back.

Thanks for the tips! Might try the black soap approach. Also my skin's actually doing quite well at the moment but next time I get issues with body acne I might give the glycolic acid a go. :)

If you decide to try the black soap, I recommend the authentic bar soap you can get from Amazon for about $10 for a block. It lasts a long time. I like its later. My daughter has used it exclusively for the past year. She had moderate acne. Although the black soap doesn't clear acne or stop acne, it has not broke her out, and many of her acne scars have faded.
