Hi,
I'm completely new to the forums as you can probably tell so bare with me on this one...
I'm a 18 year old male who has gone through most of his teen years without a single spot, something I was very grateful for. However after having gone to University last September things changed. I have been experiencing mild-to-moderate acne since then, mainly around my mouth/chin, jaw and a few spots around the side of my temple. Despite using a skin care routine of a purpose cleanser, toner and moisturizer I have been unable to shift the acne.
So, I bit the bullet and went to the doctor, they gave me benzoyl peroxide 5% and sent me on my way. However I'm nervous about using it if I don't need too and that more light treatments would work and thats why I'm posting here. If you have any advice please let me know
Extra Information:
Workout 2-5 times a week
Eat well and drink plenty of water
Hey JimMcguffin, welcome to the forum! So, the 5% BP your doctor gave you is a pretty standard starting point as topicals go. You could certainly try the acne.org 2.5% BP which works for many with the lower BP concentration, balancing benefit and irritation. You could also try salicylic acid OTC products or any number of 'natural' topical remedies that are out there and may be more gentle 'lighter' treatments. Have a browse around the other treatments forum if that sort of thing interests you. Otherwise, give the doctor prescribed product a shot for a while and see how you get on. Good luck
If using 5% BP I'd only use a pea-size amount to minimize redness, plus plenty of moisturizer! Maybe a few drops of jojoba oil for good measure. Taking steps to minimize irritation will help your acne and keep your skin comfortable. I wish more derms would prescribe 2.5% BP as it's just as effective and way gentler. But you can get 2.5% OTC or on this site. Dan's BP is the bomb!
