I recently purchased the Philosophy, one step skin cleanser called "Purity Made Simple" it helps with cleansing but makes my skin red with a rash on my cheeks. I have acne scaring on my face that already makes me look red enough and I don't need more red tint. I have the problem of mixture skin some days some places are dry and peeling while others are acne covered and dripping with oil so I need a cleanser thats gentle and deals with both. After one use of this product I noticed small mosquito bite like itchy bumps occurring on my face. Initially I thought my pets had gotten fleas but they all have collars that prevent fleas so I decided it must be something I'm using. The small bumps do eventually go away but when they occur its annoying to be scratching my delicate skin, especially since i try to avoid any contact with my face. I would like to know if there are any allergic reactants with side effect of small itchy white pumps and red rash covered skin. Note: I'm currently using the prescribed Tretinoin Cream 0.1% but I've noticed little difference in my acne or the oiliness of my face. I have honestly tried everything but I can't get rid of the acne scaring, oiliness, dryness and itchy bumps on my face. I also get large hard itchy bumps on my back and shoulders, they normally come in clusters with a few in one place.
How was the cleansing part compared to other cleansers and soaps you used? I read most things on labels and found a couple of things that I thought I don't like on the Philosophy product but ended up using that same product because I really want clear skin. I know that one of the ingredients, propylene glycole can irritate skin. The product didn't irritate my skin but I didn't buy it again because it didn't make my skin feel any cleaner than other cleansers.
I had used a product that a dermatologist recommended to me called Oily-Free acne wash by Neutrogena but it tended to dry out my skin. I have also tried using the Cetaphil, Gentle Skin Cleanser but it didn't deal with my acne. I have sort of started a routine of using the Philosophy then moisturizing my skin but it makes my face red and shiny during the day. it doesn't bother me that much but I'm still trying to find something better if you have any suggestions.
I have the exact same problem. Neutrogena's oil-free cleanser is the only one OTC I was able to find that didn't leave a gross slippery film on my face [from sulfates, etc.] but it also dries me out terribly. I literally have flakes of skin on my face from using it, and I think it's making me more oily as a result since it dries me out so much. If anything dries you out excessively or gives you tiny red bumps it's a good idea to use another product asap. Especially if the bumps itch, that sounds like an allergic reaction. Can you take an anti-allergen and call a dermatologist?

OMG, you mention the "slippery film" left on your face. It's the "slimy" residue I keep talking about that everyone seems to not notice? Also, is not sulfates doing it. I never use cleansers with sulfates and I can't seem to find a liquid cleanser these days that doesn't either have the sulfates, or leave that word residue. Even the tried and true washes that I used years ago have changed their formulas and all have this residue that didn't happen 20+ years ago. It's some new additive and it breaks me out, whatever it is.
Anyway, Calliecat124...sounds like you are probably allergic to something in that wash. I don't know if you've read the ingredient list, but it has a ton of different plant oils and extracts in it. As someone with sensitive skin that is basically allergic to everything, there is no way I would be able to use that soap without some weird reaction or breaking out.
I use Clinique mild bar in the evenings. The ingredients list is short and sweet...you can look it up on cosdna.com.
