Let me start by saying that I just turned 40. As a teen I had my share of acne. While I thought it horrible at the time in retrospect it wasn't that bad. Almost overnight 6-months ago I started getting very nasty pimples along my jaw. Out of the blue. No change in diet (I've always eaten healthy with loads of greens and fruits). My only bad habit was chocolate which I stopped eating several months back just in case it was involved. Lots of exercise. No change. Horrible, ugly pimples all along my jaw and at times my chin.
I've tried Proactiv & Neutrogena & a few other topicals (Clearasil). My skin has always been sensitive. Anything I put on my skin tends to make it red & sore. So I'm thinking that I might try some sort of pimple pill. Does anyone know of any that work? Or does something like this just not exist yet? Oh - not a pharmaceutical. A pill that is natural. Any ideas?

Judging by your age and description, the acne sounds hormonal. Most acne is but it can get worse now and then...there is a pill called spironolactone which helps with hormonal acne. Also saw palmetto is a natural supplemenwt which has a similar effect. Ask your gyno or derm about spiro, a lot of women can take it but it can cause low blood pressure .
Birth control cleard my acne but Im not sure youd want to start that at 40.
Thank you Augrie but that is exactly what I don't want: a drug. I'm looking for something that is natural. I've never heard of using saw palmetto so I'll look into that. I just searched vitamins & supplements on here. There are only a few brands that pop up when ranked with at least 25 reviews. Clearetto, Acnescript, Loma Lux and Acuzine. This is what I'm looking for. Does anyone have experience with these as an adult? Most of the reviews seem to be written by kids.
It looks like I'm going to be the guinea pig. Surely some adult on here has to have used these pills? 290 views and no one has tried one of these supposed acne pills? I can't believe it. I'm going to do some research and I'll post it on here as I do it. Somebody should! I forget the other names off the top of my head but in addition to the four that I mentioned above I found about a dozen more just by googling acne pill. I'll look them up and post a list and go from there. As of now it's:

I was hoping my last post would get a lot of response and that we'd have a bunch of us old folks trying the various above pills but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Does it. Being as it isn't I'll just give a quick update. Emailed Skinclare. They got back to me but didn't really answer my questions about which product was right for me (they aren't allowed to give medical advice blah blah blah). I finally just ordered a sample of their more expensive option. I forget the exact name but it is for people with very bad acne. My thinking when I ordered it was that I'd take the two different kind of pills for bad acne but at half the recommended dose. Who knows but that's what I'm trying. Ordered it yesterday (Thursday) so I should have it next week. Will someone else on here please try one of the other brands so we can perhaps get an understanding on here as to what works and what doesn't?
Prom thank you for your thoughts but I couldn't disagree more. Look at the ratings of the brands above. If placebo was working they'd all be hovering at about the same number. Also - my husband takes saw palmetto for his prostate so I tried it for 9 days. Maybe I needed to try it longer but it seemed to make the pimples along my chin worse. Mind you I was hopeful that it would work. There was certainly no placebo effect going on in my case!
I received the Skinclare pills about a week ago. One bottle each of the 'Regular-Oily Skin' and 'Severe-Cystic Support.' I decided not to take them right away as I didn't want my period to skew anything so I only took the first pills today. Directions are to take the ROS pills two pills twice a day. The SCS pills are to be taken 1 pill twice a day or eventually up to two pills twice a day. 60 pills in each bottle so it's a 15-day supply of the ROS pills and either a 15 or 30 day supply of the SCS depending on whether they're taken 2 or 4 a day. Since I'm worried about these things drying me out to much I'm only taking them at half the recommended starting dose-so 1 ROS twice a day and 1 SCS once a day. Three pills for today. At this rate I have a 30-day supply of the ROS and a 60-day supply of the SCS. Here's hoping.
This is going to be short & sweet. I'm very pleased with Skinclare. I take 2 or 3 of their regular pills & 2 of their severe cystic pills. This is less than what is recommended but it seems to be about right for me.
I won't be putting any more into this post. The apathy of others on this forum is deafening.
You'd be better off buying the ingredients from some of those pills separately, it's way cheaper. That's what I do. I take a huge cocktail of supplements every day, which is annoying, but it helped me achieve clear skin and improves my overall health, so I see it as a worthwhile investment.
