In short, Ive been using Acanya in am and Differin in pm for the last 2 years w/ no issues/problems.
In August, I expressed my concerns to my dermatologist about some pore clogging I was experiencing and that differin wasnt hitting these. She gave me a few samples of Taz.
I tried the Taz for 3 weeks, in the evening, along w/ Acanya in the monrning as usual. The Taz really irritated my skin so I ceased using it and just went back to my normal routine.
All was fine for approx 3 weeks and here I am today. I am breaking out non-stop and my face looks like plastic, or a waxed apple. The waxy look is not from oil, but appears to be more from dehydrated skin. I looks like my face is wet from a recent sweat but to the touch it just feels tacky. It does not rub off like oil does after a blotting.
My complexion is terrible. Besides the breakouts that Im dealing with, my skin texture is ruddy, bumpy, uneven, and it feels like something is crawling on my skin. Add the waxy look and Im on the verge of a complete meltdown.
What did I do to my skin? It really was fine for the last 2 years and in the last month, the whole texture has changed.
My wedding is in 9 days and Im about to give myself a nervous breakdown over this. I look terrible, at the worst possible time.
Any suggestions to get this plastic-ness to go away?
Ive done a lot of reading the last several days and it appears that my skin is stripped and dehydrated, creating the shiny skin. Ive loaded up on my mositurizer overnight the last several nights but it has not helped. Im at my wits end. Anything I can do in this little amount of time?
1. Get cortisone shots from your derm for any bumps or active acne. These will make the bumps go down within 2 days.
2. STOP all topical products except a very very gentle cleanser (like CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser) once a day and moisturizer twice a day. At least you have 9 days, this is enough time for your skin to rebuild a little. Don't try to overcompensate with new products, you'll just make it worse. \\
3. Get a short-term ORAL antibiotic pill to take, such as doxycycline, cephalexin, or minocycline.
I am normally very against oral antibiotics for long-term use, but for a once in a lifetime thing like a wedding, it is one of the fastest ways to clear up both acne and redness.
Acanya has benzoyl peroxide in it, combined with a strong retinoid this is murdering your skin.
thanx grace
green gables, thank you. I am unable to take anti-biotics , allergic to the cycline family and keflex, and developed rashes from bactrim after several years of use.
Thing is, Ive used these 2 products for 2 years and had no issues like what I am dealing w/ now. It had to be that the Taz changed my skin, no? I dont know, I probably overthinking.
Im also worried that if I just stop all topicals, my only meds at this point, that my face will just go bonkers. What do u think?
