Hi guys!
My gyno prescribed me Lo loestrin birth control. (I have never been on BC before.) She said that it would help with my acne¦however, all of the reviews I've been reading have been negative. Many people said Lo loestrin gave them terrible cysts.
Can anyone give me advice/experience?
Thank you
Some people have good luck with Lo Loestrin, my doctor told me it would be the only birth control that would not break me out since you have your period for such a short amount of time there wouldn't be enough time for your hormones to make you break out. The problem some people have with getting bad acne all of the sudden when going on birth control is that for most people going on birth control makes you break out when you first go on it because your body is adjusting. This break out period happens when you go on and go off birth control for most people. The problem I had with Lo Loestrin was that it made me get my period 3-4 times a month. It would only last anywhere from 2-5 days but it was still really shitty so I went off it.

That is a really strange explanation from your doctor. I swear I think a lot of GYNs don't understand how birth control and acne work.
I personally hated LoLoestrin and Loestrin. Gave me terrible breakouts, worse I'd ever had which I attribted to the fact is was high-androgenic. (It also made me rediculously nauseated and depressed and caused a lot of bleeding Lolo was just... TOO low... that's why I switched to Loestrin.) However, I was only on each for a month because I couldn't take it.
I was also on Lutera for 2 months, and while that is supposed to have super high androgenic activity, my skin was great on it. So I guess we can't always go by those rules. (This messed with my blood sugar severely so I had to switch.. from what I understand it's a pretty rare effect from that pill. I was on Alesse years ago so I think it may have been the generic Lutera that did it.)
I have been on Ortho Cyclen for 3 weeks (solely for acne) and so far I am getting a little worse. Cyst pimples are appearing, and I haven't had those for a while.
The one thing I've learned through the BCP journeys is literally everyone reacts to each pill differently. The hard and fast rule seems to be to stick each one out for three months to see if things even out. I couldn't do that with some of the pills in the past due to side effects I truly couldn't endure. Maybe this one will work for you! See if you can stick it out for 3 months.
