I'm wondering if Tazorac (Taz) or Retin-A Micro (or the generic form of it) tends to work better for most people in their 30's/40's?
I'm in my late 30's and have been a lifelong acne sufferer. (Got my first pimple at age 10, developed moderate acne in my pre-teens/teens and "graduated" to nodulocystic acne in my early 20's. I learned in my late teens that Accutane doesn't agree with me, so that's never been an option.)
These days, I want brighter-, younger-looking skin without making my scars--mostly rolling--more noticeable. (A number of Acne.org forum members have said retinoid use made their indented scarring appear deeper, so that "side-effect" is a concern.)
Thank you,
PI
I used Tazorac when I was 25 and thought it was TERRIBLE. I have used just about every topical, but this was the worst. Retin a for sure. U don't have kids skin anymore, so that super harsh stuff isn't right.
retinoids take away minor scarring and wrinkles, not make them worse. The skin can take on a shine and def get more oily, which would make scars look worse. U need to use clean and clear oil wipes every few hours to keep matte. If u use benzoyl peroxide during the day it will keep the shine off your skin. Obviously b careful and use light moisturizer over the top
Topical retinoids will cause some inflammation at first, which makes scars appear worse. If you give it time you will like the results. Tazorac is more effective and much more expensive. Tretinoin (retin-a) is a good treatment but if your skin is dry or very sensitive you should use a lower concentration 0.05% or less.
Be sure to follow the instructions carefully and use sunscreen.
Good luck
