Could Your Shampoo Or Hair Care Products Be Causing Your Acne?

This post is related to an experience my 21 year old daughter recently had. She started using Ouidad products at the advice of her hairdresser. She has always had relatively clear skin, with an occasional breakout here and there. The last few months I noticed she was starting to break out pretty badly, but only in places her hair touched (forehead and side of cheeks). I mentioned to her on many occasions that it might be her hair care products and shampoo. I had a horrible experience in the past while using Pantene Pro-V and I know what it did to my skin. So it was reasonable that shampoo can damage the skin and cause severe acne. She finally decided to listen to me and we researched some more natural brands. I found a non comedogenic shampoo, that is Paraben-free. No propylene glycol. No dyes or pigments. No EDTA. Phthalate-free fragrance. No animal testing and Non Comedogenic called The Naked Bee. I bought her the shampoo/conditioner and the shower gel. She also started using Free and Clear Hair Spray. Well, it has been about 3 weeks and her skin has significantly improved. A few blemishes here and there, but nothing like she was experiencing. Mainly just the brown marks from the old acne that need to fade. She found a good dermatologist in her college town who also started her on 25mg of Spirolactone so that might be having a positive effect as well.

I still believe my daughter had a horrible allergic reaction to the very expensive Ouidad products. If you find your acne is mainly where your hair touches, give this brand a try. You have nothing to lose!

Definitely. She should always do her skin care routine after her hair as well, to get rid of any of hair product that might be on her skin. It's good she's seeing improvements.

She does follow a very strict regime. She is fastidious with her skin care, that is why it was weird she broke out so suddently. This told me it was more than just "acne". I wash my face after I shampoo and still had that horrible reaction to Pantene Pro-V. I am so careful about what shampoo and hair products I use.Took months to undo the damage the shampoo caused.
