My acne scars have been making me concerned. In certain lighting conditions they appear far less severe and in some conditions I can barely notice them at all. However, when I view them in other circumstances, I am shocked at how severe they appear. After these moments I feel incredibly self conscious and incapable of just being myself and acting naturally. In harsher lighting conditions I will often try to avoid looking in the mirror and during the day I will turn off the light in my bathroom to eliminate the effect. A few people have told me the scars are not bad and some say they have never even noticed them until I mention them, but I am not convinced. Unfortunately I had trouble uploading my images to the actual post but they are available in my only gallery album and I was just wondering how severe the scars look and if they detract from my overall appearance. Also if anyone has experienced similar difficulties, I wanted to know what you did to move through everyday life without giving them too much attention and not worrying. Thanks very much.
I dont think your acne scars are bad at all and in most lighting I am betting that they are not even noticeable to others. But this is in the eye of the beholder and you seemed concerned about them, then there are some ways to minimize them like dermabrasion, chemical peels, or lasers. If this is a route you would like to take, then I recommend going to a reputable dermatologist to discuss treatment options.
You are like me, I don't have any good pictures that really show the scars so I didn't even bother posting, and having people tell me they are not bad. Asburypark101 is correct, you see the scars and that is what matters. They bother you so go on the attack. Before 5 Fraxel Re:pairs I couldn't stand to look in the mirror or show my face anywhere. Scars really effect your life so be true to yourself. You know what you want to do or your wouldn't be here.
That kind of scarring would not bother me at all. Hyperpigmentation is, in my mind, way way worse. You just look like a badass, to be honest. I wouldn't even look at you and think you had acne. Acne itself, red spots, white spots, etc. are what's "gross" to look at. Not what you have.
I think you're the first person I've seen on the forum that has the same type of scarring as me (although I still have some active acne and hyperpigmentation).
I have the exact same thing with my scarring. Usually it's not visible at all. If you view the post that I made, then in the pictures I took they look quite severe (I was shocked) - a combination of overhead fluorescent lighting, the angle of my face and the lens being so close.
So I understand exactly what you're saying. 99% of the time I don't think of myself of being someone who has scars, then I might see myself in bad lighting and it can kind of put a dampener on your day. But then I go back to forgetting, lol.
I would reiterate what others have said. Your skin is clear and you have no hyperpigmentation, so even under harsh lighting it really looks fine. Your skin is basically my goal - to clear up any active acne, as I'm fine with some scarring.
To give you an example, Olivier Giroud (a footballer) has acne scarring around his cheekbones. But his skin is clear, and guess what? He's known as being one of the sexiest footballers on the planet. Luckily for men, scarring really isn't a big deal.
They aren't very noticable. I have the same problem. I have to point mine out in order for people to see them. My problem is I have 2 icepicks in my smile line so it looks like a wrinkle. I'm too young for that crap (wrinkles) and I have to remind myself not to focus on it. I try to keep myself busy so that I don't spent my life in front of the mirror.
You're too young to be wasting your life worrying about scars. Try to focus on the postive things in your life. That's what I do and it really makes me appreciate what I have. It could be worse...
