Unfortunately earlier this year I broke out again so Im left with more scarring. Now that the acne is gone, I just want to know what will happen if you perform microneedling too often.

I read on on this website that sessions must be three months apart to allow collagen to grow and repair. So why do doctors recommend every 4-6 weeks instead?

Let me see if I can clarify. Are we talking manual microneedling or say a dermapen like device or rf needling?

If it's rf needling this uses energy as such you need 3 months to heal from this just like laser. Many practitioners will do it every 4 weeks but I don't think this is smart nor is it conservative with the way collagen heals. They get quicker money that way and keep you in a constant state of swelling. Some do not have time to treat properly and thus rush. Just because the surface epidermis heals there is reconstruction under the skin over many months.

DIY needling weather at home dermarolling or a dermapen at a Dr's office yes you can do this monthly.

It also depends on how you heal. If it's poor or slow I would not go pushing treatments.

If you perform to too soon you could damage the new collagen, heal poorly, have ongoing long down time, not see what is working(healing) and evaluate next steps. Etc.

Just tell the Dr or Receptionist you will get back to them when you can reschedule the apt. Then make it 3 months after for rf needling.

Thank you for your helpful response. I plan to do it at a dermatologist's office - I believe she uses a Dermapen. I asked if she provides microneedling RF and she doesn't. Actually I live in Toronto, so if anyone knows of a service provider for RF microneedling, please do let me know.

Thanks very much.

@DamagedSkinThere is a list in the FAQ, very first post of the scar treatments sub, scroll down to the practitioners list. There are CAN Drs on there. You want to goto a DR who does subcision and or TCA Cross first as manual methods are always best to start with. Worry about RF needling after that. Many Med spas also do rf needling in CAN if you Google it's the sub that is hard to find.

I would not bother paying anyone for normal microneedling / dermapen., buy a derminator which is cheaper than a treatment and do it at home. RF Needling is not the same - more like a laser.
