I am planning to have phenol chemobrasion done with dr rullan but it has a hefty price tag of 6000 dollars done by with pretty promising results.
A little background about myself I am of Indian descent.
what I am thinking is in terms of cost if co2 laser would give me the same results as chemobrasion, then atleast I could save some money with co2 laser or if you believe chemobrasion is much safer procedure.
I am attaching some before and after from dr rullan asssistant Amy.
can anyone tell me which one would you pick and why ?
I dont believe fully ablative CO2 would give the same results as Phenol because CO2 is heat energy. Im personally saving for a phenol myself but am in Canada and also need to save for the flight to Rullan +caregiver etc. So if you have the means Iwould tell you to go for phenol

This was helpful. Thank you!! It is a pitty though that she didn't follow up with the promised photos. I'd really like to see after photos 6 months post op. The last photo above is really not the best as it is taken 1 month post op( according to Rullan's website) and at this point there is still too much swelling going on to assess results.

Also lightning is not the same

His assistant Amy said, the first patient is after 3 months from second chemobrasion, and the second patient is 1 year from chemobrasion, see updated pictures sorting.

I've Indian skin type as well and it's better to avoid CO2, since we're mostly Skin type 4/5 and it can give you many complications like hypopigmentation etc. Rullan's Phenol peel is mostly safe for skin of color and he is quite experienced with darker skin types but comes with a hefty price tag and a very long downtime.
Another alternative you can consider is Erbium resurfacing(ablative). which is a safer compared to CO2 for dark skin.

So comparing the results to phenol chemabrasion, would you say erbium would give close by results?
I think the deep phenol peel is the equivalent ofthe fully ablative co2 laser in terms of results and downtime. Peel and laser doctors would argue which one is better. The purpose of both is to efface or abrade the edges of boxcars for example to make them blend with the surrounding skin better. I've been trying to find good laser specialists for the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately I wasn't very successful. It's not that there aren't good ones, but just Dr Rullan is more experienced with acne scars and has aneasily verifiable track record of successful treatments.
Undoubtedly, the texture, the tone, any pigment issues improve significantly with the 2 days phenol peel, and it is very suitable for a final polish after other scar treatments. However, Dr Rullan recommends the peeling also for scars which don't respond well to anything else, as a 'last resort' so to speak. Dr Lim also suggests that deep peels can raise up deep scars. So I'm really curious what the peel can actually do for the scars. According to dr Rullan's paper, one can expect 80% improvement.I'm having a hard time believing 80% improvement of acne scarring is possible though. Or maybe these are the best responders. I'd be more than happy even with 50% of my deep boxcars, and wonder if that's possible.
