Tried to extract blackheads, now nose is inflamed

A few weeks ago I tried to extract the blackheads on my nose using a blackhead extractor. It seemed to work ok, but then a few days later I started developing sore, red bumps. Half of my nose doesn't hurt now but is still red and the other half has just in the last couple of days gone sore and developed a massive bump like the other side did.

It looks pretty stupid and I know I'm pretty stupid for messing about with an extractor in the first place...won't be using that again! I tried using my normal treatment, Zineryt, on the affected area but the skin on my nose doesn't seem to like it and gets more clogged up. I've thought about using BP but I'm concerned that will clog it up even further and make it looked even redder. What can I do? Should I put anything on it at all or just trust it to go back to normal with time? I never really know how I should treat my nose because the skin there seems so much more prone to oilyness than elsewhere on my face and my products which work on my cheeks just don't work on blackheads. .

That can happen if you irritate an adjacent incipient pimple that wasn't planning on becoming a pimple but did because it got smooshed.

One way to prevent it is to only extract after a longish warm (not hot) shower. Disinfect the skin prior to extraction and after each and every single extraction, and the tool itself, too. Alcohol will be ok for just occasional disinfection. I would not ever use hydrogen peroxide.

After you've extracted your spots, then wash your face again, tone, ice, disinfect with your acne treatment (BP or whatever it is that's anti-infective). Maybe even moisturize a tad before BP or whatever.

In the interim, please see the link at the bottom of my signature for tips to help shrink the spots and reduce their redness, potentially decrease possibility of red mark or scar formation.

yeh "smooshing" pimples isn't advised :D

I have done it myself in the past and the redness can last a while, It's even worse if you dont leave them alone and they scab.
