These blemishes look strange to me. Not a typical spot/formation for blemishes either, a bit lower than most. I'm bumping in hopes someone who's has had these will see, and can offer you some more information

The bumps under your skin are small hypertrophic scar formations. Typical laser resurfacing treatments will be ineffective in treating this. Substantial improvement can only come from the 585 nm pulsed dye laser which penetrates deep into the underlying skin tissue. Repeated treatment coupled with steroid injections and silicon gel sheets will most likely give you the best result (80% + improvement).

* Be careful with the steroid injections. Your scar formations are very small and repeated use of steroid injections can cause pitting.

They definitely look smaller to me. Keep us posted on whether they continue to improve.

Its interesting because I developed some similar-looking flesh-colored bumps on my chin a couple weeks ago. The are smaller/flatter than what you have and aren't as noticeable, but the quality and location of the bumps is very similar. Mine are a little lower, but concentrated in a small circle in the middle of my chin. I am clear on the rest of my face, and my esthetician at the acne clinic I go to looked at the bumps yesterday and said they aren't clogged pores or acne (and she looks at a lot of acne, so she should know!). She wasn't sure what they were exactly. Mine got worse over about a wk, and have gotten a little better over the last couple of days, but they are still there. I had no cysts or anything prior to developing the bumps, so mine definitely are not scars. I thought mine might be product-related or irritation-induced, so I am going light on products in this area right now.

My esthetician also said that if she stretches the skin, that the bumps disappear. Do yours do that?

Did yours start as acne cysts, or did they just show up looking like the flesh colored bumps you have now? If they started off looking like they do now, I would doubt they are scars.

Wow, this may be the answer I've been looking for! I have similar bumps on my chin area that are painless, skin-colored, and have been there for a few months now. I was also on doxycycline for a little less than a year when I started noticing them.

How much did your steroid injection treatment cost you?

I refuse to believe these are scars. I've got smaller ones, but I'm convinced these are just really deep clogs. With mine, when I stretch the skin, I can see really small white bumps. If this phenomenon is raised scars, why aren't we getting them elsewhere? Do our chins have a large propensity to scar? Don't think so.

It was actually my esthetician who didn't know what they were (she's not an MD, but has been treating acne for years). She tried to extract them, but said they did not appear to be clogged pores or any type of acne. If they aren't gone in another couple of weeks, I am going to have my derm take a look and see what he thinks.

I can tell that you're very frustrated with your scarring. This is the usually the case with almost all individuals that I've come across who are suffering from your condition. Since the scarring is located close to the upper dermal layers it can normally stretch to the point where it isn't noticeable. The small white dumps that you see are either the result of folliculitis and/or overactive sebaceous glands. I've seen great results with the 585 nm pulsed dye laser. For some cases depending on the depth and characteristics of the scars, even DEEP resurfacing treatment seems to significantly lessen their appearance. However, generally deep resurfacing treatment is usually exercised as a last resort but in any case consult your doctor. Good luck to you!

That looks fairly similar to what I have, but I don't have quite as many and they are smaller. They are in small clusters like that though. What is the difference between the top and bottom pics? Are you stretching the skin on the bottom one? Mine tend to disappear when I stretch my skin flat.

I have been discussing this in another thread under the noninflamed acne section, since it seems a number of people have the same mysterious bumps that just don't go away. Mine have generally popped up in areas that I am most prone to inflamed acne, but they didn't develop directly from pimples. I actually got most of them after I was no longer prone to regular inflamed acne on my chin, so I'm sure mine are not scars or cysts.

My new derm said most of mine are benign keratoses - he says they are mostly genetic and tend to pop up more often as people get older (but they can also occur in younger people too). He said a few might be enlarged oil glands. He treated two spots with a electrocautery type of instrument and had me wait to see how they healed and to make sure I didn't get any scarring or discoloration. They swelled for a day or so and scabbed up for a few days. They took about a week to heal totally and then another week or so for the redness to fade. One of the bumps is gone, the other may still be there but it looks smaller. He's going to do the rest for me in 2 wks.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Maybe it might be a treatment option for you to consider?

Looks like the stuff I get from time to time... do these bumps itch? A doctor once told me I had a small patch of eczema on my stomach which always itches like hell and it looks similar to those bumps you have on your chin. You really just treat eczema with anti-inflammatory methods like Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream, I think.

Hello All, I'm sorry for the super late reply.

Something very interesting and strange happened... Approximately a month and a half after I received the steroid injections (and the "scars" showing improvement) I traveled across the world to the middle east where it was about 98-110 degrees EVERY SINGLE DAY (not sure if the temp. is relevant, but that was the main difference)! I was there for almost 2 months.

The first week the scars had remained the same. However as time went by, I noticed they started to get bigger again! In fact, by the 3rd week, they became even bigger than they were BEFORE the steroid injections !!!!!! I was so upset! AND THEN!!!!! By the 4th week it got worse! I believe in the second picture I posted (very first posting on this thread) I've pointed to the sites of where the injections were placed - you can literally see the sites--these very sites, one by one, each formed a white bubble of puss; the kind you get with zits. And when I say one by one, I mean it! One of the sites would form the bubble of puss, and once that went away, the next site formed it!!!! SO STRANGE And what was even stranger was that they never popped! I made sure to not mess with them, so that they naturally pop.. but they never did! they came and went away on their own. One of the days I was extremely frustrated and upset that I decided to pop it, and sure enough there was puss, but it also bled quite a bit. For the next few days after that it turned into a scab and looked horrible . So this cycle continued for the entire stay.

It's been a month since I've been back home (US) and they are now decreasing in size again. At this point, I'm pretty annoyed because they are still there and I have no guarantee/clue of whether they will even remain this smaller size/get bigger tomorrow, or EVER go away.

One treatment of the steroid injection cost me ~$200.00 ... I feel like it was a complete waste for me. My scars did not improve for when I went on vacation, instead got worse. I also did not want to get more than one treatment as steroid injections can also cause craters.

I saw someone above ask about stretching, when i stretch the skin, they do become more flat. They don't itch, and don't feel like they are a part of my face/skin. They have a very smooth texture.. kinda like when you burn your finger and that bubble of water forms.

Sighh.. very frustrated, annoyed, and hopeless. I do hope that my information helps someone out there because I know the feeling of looking in the mirror and feeling like crap. Hope my info helps someone solve this ridiculous mystery.

I have two of these around the crease in my chin area, so it doesn't bug me that much. Slightly raised white bumps. What's weird is I can't remember how I got them...if they were from messing with pimples or what, they must be like 15 years old.

I'm a little worried though because I picked at a pimple on my chin last week, and now it's a red bump, and I hope it doesn't turn into one of those...because not sure if that's how those two old ones formed. What if the skin on that area of the chin is different for healing? It's very weird.

i have these on my cheeks (About 10 on each cheek maybe more) and some on my forehead.

i have noticed that these things form in similar areas to where a previous acne lesion was... AND they spontaneously spawn in areas where i never get acne.

i dont think these are scars... because i have them in areas i never had acne.

On another note... did everyone here take antibiotics? for what its worth, mines got worse after taking doxy... but i always had these (i noticed my bro has them to, and he never took antibiotics).

are we pretty much going to have bad skin for life?

I never took antibiotics. It's so weird how I don't know how or when the two bumps I have formed. I must not have been as OCD about my skin when I was a teenager as I am now.

About 3 years ago, i developed these small, hard, skin-colored bumps. At that time, my skin was COMPLETELY clear.. a year later, my cheeks filled up with severe acne. Since then I've been on tons of acne medications : minocycline (didn't help), tetracycline(didn't help), and finally, just 4 months ago i started doxycycline along with birth control. Together these 2 have significantly improved my acne.. HOWEVER, the bumps on my chin have remained the same! I've gotten laser acne treatment, chemical-peels, and microdermabrasions done as well.. all which did NOTHING for the bumps on my chin. There is no puss inside of them, i've tried to poke them.. nothing happens! Although they're not HUGE.. when the light hits them, they look ABSOLUTELY horrible! Finally, my derm suggested I see a dermatologist surgeon to take a biopsy of them, or remove them somehow.

 

So.. he [dermatologist-surgeon] suggested that it's probably scar tissue and I could either go with a laser treatment or steroid injections to remove them. He said some of them could possibly be cysts and the laser cannot treat cysts. I decided to go with the steroid injection. It's been ONE week since i've gotten the injections and I'd like to share my progress with you all

Hi! How was your diet in that time frame that you started having severe acne? If there is one thing ive learned as an acne sufferer is that doctors and cleaners DO NOT clear acne. haha if they did we would not be on this forum I cleared my acne months ago from changing my diet! Five days in not enough time to gage the process, It can take 6 weeks, and generally more then one shot is needed.
