Okay so really new to this site, finding my feet, but basically i am 21 years old and as a teenager i never really had acne (the odd hormonal spot here and there of course) however when i turned 18/19 i started to get pretty bad breakouts not so much regarding quantity of spots etc, but very angry looking, vert imflamed spots, very oily skin yet in places extremely dry patches. All very under the skin (dont know how else to explain it) one area got so bad i had to see a surgeon to have it sorted, i will add here that i went private and paid like 500 to be left with a nice little 1cm scar on my cheek (doesnt sound that much however i am overly insecure and a little bit of a drama queen) but anyway i thought my skin was finally starting to behave itself a year on from that, however the past few months i have had this persistant under the skin spot on my other cheek, it came and went as it pleased but anyway the other day i went to my gp and she says it is a blocked hair follicle, has given me isotrexin gel, as my Differin cream is doing absolutely nothing. I do all i can to prevent my acne i spend a lot on skin care i never buy anything my old dermatologist/gp havnt recommended to me, i use hand sanitizer a thousand times a day i try to watch my diet. Basically has anybody had this blocked hair follicle problem before? How do i stop and prevent this? Just want to say my gp doesnt want me to take Roaccutane as I am diagnosed bipolar and am on other meds. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE.
This is more of what my "acne" consists of, the reason being I've been to several doctors and dermatologists and have gotten mixes diagnosis from folliculitus to staph infection to just regular stubborn acne, I can get what I think is a blocked follicle anywhere on my body which starts out small but then over the next couple of weeks gets more red and inflamed. If I were to shave with a normal razor my chances or getting one is certain. Lol I also just had a spot removed on my cheek so I know what that's like. The only advice I can give you is to bring the question you just asked to your dermatologist and see what his or her professional opinion is on the matter and to maybe do some research into folliculitus and ingrown hairs.
