One Acne Cyst

Hello,

I am new to here and I'm not sure if this topic has been answered. If anyone can help me or direct me to anywhere helpful I would appreciate it!

For starters, I have suffered from mild to moderate acne since 8th grade and I am now 24. In general, I would say that my face is not all that bad when it comes to acne. I do have a lot of acne scarring on my chin, as I almost always have breakouts there.. Other than my chin, I don't have any other breakouts.

But, I have been getting a recurring cyst on face for years. It is to the left of my nose, usually right by it. Sometimes very close to my eye, sometimes a little lower. The first one came when I was 17 and it was right below my eye. It wasn't all that big or painful. In fact, it wasn't even red. It was just a weird squishy bump on my face that I thought would just go away. Upon going to the derm for my checkup, he informed me it was a cyst and he'd give me a cortisone shot to make it go away.

Since that first one, I have been getting that recurring cyst in the same area and each time it gets worse. It gets so big and so painful that I can't bring myself to leave the house. The last one was slightly larger than a nickle and was incredibly painful. It never forms to a head and it is just a big red, round, swollen, squishy, sac of pain. I could not even move my facial muscles without wanting to cry from the pain! I can't even remember the number of times I have went to the derm to get this cyst injected. I can always feel what feels like the beginning of a cyst on my face and I'm constantly worried that it is going to surface. The only way it will go away is if I get a shot.

If there is anyone out knows why I just get one cyst on my mostly clear face or what I can do to keep it from coming back, please help me. I am on birth control and have seen a derm for years. I'm on generic retin a and an antibiotic cream. I also have bactrim, but I find that it makes me sick to be on a high dosage and it hasn't seemed to work. I've was prescribed that when I was a young teen and it never worked. I don't want to go on accutane or any other intense drug because I don't think my acne is bad enough, aside from this one stupid devil cyst. angry.png

I'm honestly just looking for answers or would like to know if anyone has the same problem? Or if there is anything I can do to prevent it from coming back? Any help would be wonderful.

Hey!

I am literally suffering with the same thing, except it's to the right of my nose not the left :P I got the first cyst about two years ago and then it was nothing but a bump under the skin, until recently, where I've had really inflamed cysts twice now.

From my experience, all I can say is take extra care not to irritate that side of your fake, don't pick at it or do anything that may cause a small pimple. Because I've noticed that the times it came back, it started off with just a small pimple.

I've started the regimen two weeks ago, using acne.org's products and to me, it seems as though the bump under the skin is getting smaller. So if you haven't already, maybe try that! :)

And when it is inflamed, really try not to touch it at all, I made the mistake of using a hot compress and really forcing stuff out of it last time, and it just made it even worse :| I've heard the ice method is particularly helpful, though.

It is a complete nightmare though, especially not being able to conceal it or anything, but I guess we could have it worse...

I am not alone!!! Right, we could have it worse so I am thankful it is only one. It is so hard not to touch it just to make sure its not getting any bigger. I don't really have a noticeable bump, just a different texture to that part of my face I'd say. If you know what I mean. It just feels...different.

Do you do the regimen on your entire face? My face is actually pretty clear (for the time being) aside from some hyper-pigmentation on my chin. I'm just curious as to if it will irritate the rest of my face.

I have tried the hot compress method and ice. I mean, I guess they help slightly. I always just have to hide away in my house until I can get a derm appointment to get it injected. Let me know how your fight against the single devil cyst goes.

Thanks so much! smile.png

Yeah, I know what you mean! I do use the regimen on most of my face, but that's because I've got lots of red marks on my forehead/chin and they're both areas prone to getting a really nasty spot every now again.

I'm pretty sure you can just use the regimen on one area, as it'll probably dry out/irritate the rest of your face and you don't want that if it's not really necessary. But it is quite expensive just to use on one area, so I'd maybe consider just buying some benzoyl peroxide/AHA and using that to treat the area alone.

Thank you!!:p I wish you the best of luck on this ongoing struggle :'( we can win!!:p
