I've had cystic acne ever since I was about 14. antibiotics managed to clear my skin while I was on them, but once I stopped taking them my acne came back worse. I am now on accutane (3 months and a few days in).
ive been wondering if my acne will clear up faster if I take some kind of birth control that lowers androgens. I usually get about two new pimples a day before my period starts, so i think stopping my period would help.
some factors that could help someone determine if my acne is hormonal or not:
-widespread, usually on my cheeks
-before accutane, used to break out all the time
-I'm usually very stressed
-did a test for PCOS, don't have it
-break out before period and under lots of stress
-responded to antibiotics
-most people in dads side of the family have bad acne
Almost all acne can be put down to hormones due to the fact that it starts at puberty when your body experiences a surge in sex hormones. It's not the only factor, but it's likely it's one of the contributing factors.
I hear that the birth control pill can do wonders for your skin, but as a male I've got no first hand experience. I have, however, read about many girls having success with it on here.
Bear in mind that the BCP can sometimes make your acne worse, but I think it depends which type you take.
