Hi guys,
I'm 26 years old and have had moderate acne since my teens. I'd finally like to clear my skin up once and for all, but the sheer amount of treatment options is pretty confusing so I thought where better than Acne.org to come for advice on where to start. This is what I currently use
Cerave Hydrating Cleanser
Stridex 2% Salicycic acid wipes
Cerave Moisturiser
This has helped stop any bad breakouts but I don't think it's enough to really clear my skin up. I'd like to switch to a similar 3-step routine that is easy to apply on a daily basis, and I think I'm either going to go withPaula's Choice Acne set (heard good things)or the Acne.org regimen itself.
What would you guys recommend? I also have a bottle of Doxycycline, would that be worth adding at a dose of 50mg-100mg?
Thanks in advance
I think you should stick to this routine if its stopped most of your major break outs, but maybe consider adding a chemical peel into your routine. Salicylic acid is my personal favourite, its amazing at getting deep into the pores, clearing out any impurities in the skin and greatly reducing any active acne. You can buy salicylic acid online from places like ebay & amazon. Remember to start at a low percentage and go up to the next one when your skin feels used to it. Also carefully follow the instructions and remember to always wear sunscreen, especially after doing the peel as your skin will be super sensitive.
I think that trying Paula's Choice is a good idea - but her BP won't be as good as the Regimen's, it will also be more expensive.
I'd say pick and choose the best products from different brands, to better tailor them to your skin. Three step systems are only great for convenience, but they're more generic and might not suit everybody.
My recommendation is a cleanser from Bioderma (Sensibio or Sebium), toner from Paula's Choice (2% BHA - is incredible at clearing up congested skin. Start by using it every other evening, and then every evening... twice a day may be a little too harsh), BP from Acne.org (biggest bang for your buck), and moisturizer from Bioderma (Hydrabio Light Cream)/Cerave.
Just remember to apply your moisturizer to damp skin for the moisturizer to actually work (seal in moisture).
With love,
Olena
