Hi all, after pretty much a lifetime of clear skin, I'm suffering through a huge and very sudden breakout on my left cheek. My appointment with the dermatologist isn't for a week, but I can't help but obsess over what's going on with my face.
My dermatitis/acne/herpes(?!) is presenting as a large rash that covers about half my left cheek. After noticing a few red bumps here and there across my face, this more concentrated breakout appeared nearly overnight and has grown in size over the last 3 days. It appears the least red and irritated in the morning -- this morning I actually thought it might've been healed, but by about 11a everything was red and raised again. Red bumps break, ooze fluid, and scab over. The older portions of my rash, closer to my ear, have dried out and are a bit scaly. The rash itches periodically but nothing major. I've been treating it by washing it (including with antiseptic soap because I am terrified of staph) and applying hydrocortisone. Is this a sufficient treatment plan to get me through until I can see my dermatologist? I'd appreciate hearing from anyone whose had a similar breakout - I am so out of my comfort zone and wondering what in gods name is going on with my face.

It looks like Folliculitis. If tested positive, you will be prescribed antibiotic or antifungal for treatment. In the meantime, use any dandruff shampoo to clean your face twice a day. Change towels after each use.

Hey, thank you so much!! I tried this treatment last night, as well as a topical antifungal (miconazole), and woke up this AM with the clearest skin in a week. Really appreciate this - had never heard of folliculitis until you posted. I'll report back again once I talk to the derm, just in case it will help someone else.
