Just Started Yaz (Loryna) For Acne

Hello everyone,

My dermatologist just recently prescribed me the generic birth control for Yaz called Loryna. I am onto my second week of my second pack and I guess I'm just starting to feel a little bummed out. I know it takes time, it just seems like it's not improving at all and sometimes it seems to be getting worse. I'm afraid that maybe it won't help my situation because severe acne runs in my family and there's really no cure for genetic acne.

Some history: I've been suffering from acne since I was about 12years old and now I'm 20. I have tried everything from prescription topical meds, like benzoyl peroxide gels and retin-a, as well as antibiotics and even home remedies and facials. Each time I try something new I get this little sense of hope that this is the thing that is finally going to work, but it never does and it's such a let down.

Basically I just wanted to ask some other women who have tried Loryna or Yaz and see if it's worth sticking with. I don't want to give up too soon, but I also don't want to waste my time if it won't help, or make my skin worse. I've heard that it usually takes about three months to see results and I'm still only on the second month so it's still possible there's a chance it will work for me. I'm really starting to feel hopeless about my skin, I'm just looking for some motivation to keep on fighting!

~I also just want to say how much this site has helped me over the years dealing with this issue. It's comforting to know you're not alone and that there are people out there that are rooting for you and willing to give you advice and offer support. It really is such a great community

Thanks and any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Second month is too soon for any pill to work on your skin (unless you're one if the very lucky few). Most people that I've talked to take anywhere from 4-6 months to see improvements. Just hang in there :) I've heard good things about Yaz.

Thanks for the feedback! Very true that it's waayy too soon to tell after just a month haha I'm definitely going to stick with it and see what happens. Glad to hear that it has worked well for your skin, I'll update this forum if I start seeing improvement :)

So something interesting I've noticed is I think there is a connection between taking the pill late and acne. It seems that if I accidentally forget to take my pill and take it a few hours late I breakout. For instance, when I created this forum I was currently experiencing a pretty bad breakout and just a day or so earlier I took the pill about two hours late. Also for the first couple weeks I was taking it, I kept forgetting to take it at the same time and I had some pretty bad breakouts.

But it makes sense if you think about it. If each pill only last 24 hours and you take the next one after that 24 hour mark your hormone levels will fluctuate which leads to acne.

Just something I've noticed and thought I should share. Definitely going to make sure I am more careful about taking them on time!

I've been on yaz for a month and while my skin isn't perfect I haven't had a cyst since I started taking it and am mostly concerned about my lingering red marks. I am also using topicals (see my signature)..

I did freak out about blood clots because of random pain in my legs but my ultrasound at the ER was clear... Definitely something to be wary about. =(

But I feel great on Yaz, no nausea, extreme fatigue, mega anxiety like on my previous pill.

Sorry just saw this! That's so great to hear so glad that it's working for you for the most part! I also haven't experienced any terrible side effects which is such a relief haha. I'm on my last week of my second month and overall I haven't experienced any drastic changes with my skin but I do think my breakouts are less severe overall and definitely less hormonal ones around the chin and jawline

I also am a sufferer of persistent red marks that seem to never go away haha I'm hoping if the bc can get my acne under control I can do some type of dermabrasion or peel (something maybe my dermatologist recommends) for the marks.

Anyway it's good to hear about your success with this pill. Here's to hoping only good things come from here

p.s I also saw that you use clindamycin I use that in the morning as well (I'm not crazy about that stuff because it burns my skin almost every morning!) and I use a retina-a cream at night its supposed to help with the marks lol I've been doing this for years now and no really drastic results for my skin, but I think dermatologists don't really like having to change around the medications too often so that's why I've been on the same stuff for so long!

Oh, I know. I feel like clindamycin and adapalene help keep things in control but my red marks are as red as ever... I guess time will tell.
