I think that that is the case for most people. That's why you hear of people with very oily skin going on ultra low doses indefinitely. I don't personally feel comfortable with being on accutane indefinitely, though. You should check out my most recent thread about green smoothies. They're reducing my oily skin to more comfortable levels similar to when I still had some of the effects of accutane.

My oil came back 2-3 weeks after I stopped Accutane. But I was able to use as little as 10mg once a day and still get the oil reducing effect, so that was nice.

In my case, when the oily skin started to come back, so did the acne. I believe this is because all the effects of the accutane (including the regulation of skin shedding) were wearing off at the same time. So accutane gave me nice skin for two years, but in the end it wasn't a permanent solution.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Was the acne any better than before accutane? Did you try another course of accutane? Would you say it was worth it? I guess that last question depends on side effects and you just don't know if you're going to be in the majority with non serious side effects or one of the few severely and perhaps permanently affected... I don't like gambling!!

To be honest my skin isn't that much better than before accutane. I have more noninflamed acne, but slightly less inflamed acne. I attribute the less inflamed acne to not being a teenager anymore though, and not necessarily the accutane. I did not try another course of accutane because of the cost, side effects, and also because I believe it is not a permanent solution. Overall, I would say that it was not worth it for me to go on accutane. I had relatively few side effects while I was on the course, but I do have one long term side effect which I really wish I didn't have. I never had a problem with scarring and hyperpigmentation before accutane, and now my skin scars very easily. Before accutane I could literally have a gaping wound and it would heal without scarring, and now even small pimples and scrapes seem to scar me. I also don't believe it was worth it because it was not a long term solution. I'm now looking into solutions which will have longer lasting effects like diet and lifestyle changes, and so far I am having success.

hi, its me again. lol.

I can tell you that for most people the oiliness does eventually come back even my derm said so. I took it for only a month and it took another month before my skin/hair got oily again. For most people the excess oil is caused by hormones so once the oil glands repair themselves, yes it does come back. That could be anywhere from a few months to 5 years. My guess is, people who are "cured" by accutane would have outgrown it anyway.

Also, on the downside some people who have taken very high doses for extended periods claim NONE of their sebum returns, and all their mucus membrains are permanantly died out, which means dry mouth, dry hair, dry eh, other things. Not good. . But, you know how I feel about accutane...

I actually don't remember my cumulative does. However, my derm did say it was enough for my height and weight which is 5'6" and 120 lbs. I do know though, that my course was about 8 months which is much longer than most people.
