Some people eat gluten foods and starts to having acne and keratosis pilaris in the chest and belly. They go in doctors, they do tests, the results and the doctors say that these people have no allergy to any food, it's not celiac disease, it's not intestinal disease, it's not leaky gut, it's not candidiasis, it's not internal disease, it's just external disease in the skin, it's just acne. Doctors only suggested to not eat foods with gluten and suggested only to use acne creams. Are the doctors right because there is no other symptom? Are the doctors right because the food allergy tests were all negative? These people never more can eat gluten in their lives? What do you suggest to cure this problem?
Coeliac disease (which one can test for) and gluten intolerance are two different things. The coeliac test does not test for gluten intolerance. Do NOT eat gluten - gluten causes inflammation, arthritis, skin problems and irritable bowel syndrome. No-one should eat gluten, because most people are intolerant of it.
You do have other symptoms according to information that you have provided previously - you have a white tongue which strongly suggests that candida is the cause of your skin problems. Apply an antifungal cream to the affected areas of your skin - either clotrimazole or nystatin cream.
I cannot find where I thought you said you had a white tongue, but does not matter.
Let's diagnose your problem properly. I have seen the photos of your face.
If you want my input, please answer the questions below.
1. Do you have a white coating on your tongue ?
2. Do you have dandruff ?
3. Do you have unexplained headaches or tiredness or feelings of disorientation ?
4. Have you taken antibiotics or steroids (eg, prednisone or body building steroids) or antacid tablets ?
5. We know you have taken ibuprofen for a while.
6. We know you have been eating gluten products and other inflammatory (processed and preserved) foods.
Leaky gut is mainly a myth, so forget it.
Depending on your answers to the above questions, I think you probably have candida or malassezia outbreaks on your skin (both are fungal) caused by long term use of ibuprofen suppressing your immune system, and exacerbated by inflammation caused by gluten and processed/preserved foods.
If you have taken antibiotics or steroids (or possibly antacid tablets) then the candida or malasezzia is/are caused by those factors in conjunction with the ibuprofen, gluten, processed foods etc.
I can work out whether you have candida or malasezzia (or both) according to whether you have dandruff and/or a white tongue.
So, if you want information from me please get back to me with answers to the above questions. And can you please maintain one thread rather than creating new threads every time you ask a question. Thanks.
Thanks. From the evidence you have provided your friend might have ordinary acne or he/she might have "fungal acne" caused by malasezzia and/or candida. Contrary to what a poster said on another thread, ibuprofen can cause outbreaks of malasezzia and/or candida because ibuprofen interferes with the body's immune system, and anything that interferes with one's immune system can cause fungal outbreaks.
Give that topical antifungal cream is perfectly safe and is cheap, I suggest your friend apply clotrimazole topical antifungal cream 2-3 times a day to the affected areas of his/her skin. Make sure he/she does not take antibiotics unless he/she has a serious bacterial infection.
Suggest that your friend does not not eat gluten (wheat), sugar, preservatives, yeast, dairy or processed foods.
Apply the topical antifungal cream for a week and see how your friend goes doing that. Get back to me after a week of applying the clotrimazole cream, if you wish.
I also suggest that your friend seriously consider NOT taking ibuprofen (except for a day or two). Ibuprofen is quite a dangerous drug - oral ibuprofen can cause heart problem amongst other side effects. There are safer alternatives to ibuprofen, depending on what he/she is taking it for.
How old is your friend ?
29 years old. My friend starts to have acne in the neck, chest, belly, back, arms and legs after eat grains, rice, gluten, wheat, white sugar, sweet potatoes, quinoa, cookies, pizza, coffee, industrialized foods, canned foods. If he dont have symptoms after eat beans, he can eat beans everyday, right? Why you are sure he dont have the leaky gut? Is because he have only one symptom: acne on the body? Only this symptom isnt sufficient to confirm the leaky gut?
Leaky gut is largely a myth. Forget leaky gut.
The most likely scenario is that the ibuprofen compromised his immune system, which allowed the fungus to proliferate. Eating gluten and processed foods made the problem worse, because gluten and processed foods cause inflammation which can help the fungus proliferate.
Having said that, it is possible that your friend has ordinary acne caused by a similar process. The simplest and safest way to find out is to apply topical clotrimazole cream. If there is no improvement in the "acne" then your friend might have ordinary acne. Alternatively, he might have fungal acne which needs a different antifungal cream. He can go the next step after trying the clotrimazole antifungal cream - it is cheap and readily available.
Clotrimazole cream is cheap and safe. Treatments for acne are expensive and dangerous. Why not try the antifungal cream first ?
And tell your friend to NEVER not eat gluten, wheat, white sugar, cookies, pizza, industrialized foods, canned foods. These foods cause inflammation and all sorts of health problems, not just skin problems.
Are you sure that sweet potato, rice, and quinoa (not sure about coffee) have caused his problem. I doubt that these foods cause the problem, but the other foods (see above) will - because they cause inflammation by being assimilated through normal digestive processes, NOT through leaky gut. Has your friend eaten one food only for a few days, so he knows which food/s ACTUALLY cause the problem.
Check that your friend has not taken prednisone or other corticosteroid (for inflammation) or body building steroids. Corticosteroids and steroids will cause fungal acne (and sometimes they cause ordinary acne).
Yes, he can eat beans, fruit, oats, pumpkin every day. Can he eat eggs or meat ? If he cannot eat eggs or meat, he will need to supplement with certain amino acids and with vitamin B12. He will need to get specialist advice on this, as I only have general knowledge in this area.
Look up what vegetarians need to supplement with on the web.
No problem eating beans, fruit, oats, pumpkin, and no meat or eggs or supplements for several days, without eating eggs or meat, but not for too long as that diet will lack some essential amino acids and will lack vitamin B12 (and possibly other things). It is a very low fat/oil diet, so that might be a problem long term. Can he eat olive oil ?
He should NOT eat any wheat (or barley or rye) as flour or in any other way. Gluten is in wheat, barley and rye.
He could eat gluten free (ie, free of wheat, barley or rye) bread or cookies and cakes.
Some people say oats contains gluten. It does not (unless it is contaminated with wheat), but oats does contain a different indigestible protein (like gluten, but not gluten). If he has no problem with oats, then he should eat oats - they are a very good food.
If he eats fish and chicken, he won't need to take any supplements. Chicken is meat. Can he eat nuts ?
No. In your opinion, he only have candida acne on the body caused by foods and he dont have leaky gut, celiac disease, food allergy, right? Is good idea he eat everyday only fish, chicken, non starched vegetables, fruits, pumpkins, oats, coconut, homemade turmeric tea, shitake, right?
Peter
I cannot tell you what your friend should eat. I cannot tell you whether he has coeliac disease, food allergies, or food intolerances (which are not the same as food allergies). I can say that leaky gut is largely a myth.
I can also say the following -
1. Ibuprofen can cause fungal outbreaks.
2. Eating fish, chicken, non starchy vegetables, fruit, oats, pumpkin, coconuts, tumereric is a reasonably healthy diet, although it is possibly lacking some vitamins (maybe vitamin e?). Vitamin e is in green leafy vegetables, so if he eats those he should be OK.
If your friend has candida acne on the body (or malasezzia acne which is more likely) he should apply topical antifungal cream NOW. Start with clotrimazole cream. Your friend is very foolish, if he does not apply topical anti-fungal cream, such as clotrimazole to the affected parts of his body. I strongly suggest that he buy some clotrimazole cream and apply to the affected parts of his body now, if he has fungal acne.
Fungal acne can go cystic and then it is very hard to get rid of.
He is using everyday twice a day cream to cure the fungal acne on the body. After he used the cream, the acne on the body decrease and disappear. But the problem is if he eat gluten, wheat, bread, cookie, grains, rice, quinoa, sweet potatoe, coffee, industrialized foods, canned foods, the fungal acne on the body come back. He did the candida diet for some months eating only fish, chicken, meat, non starched vegetables and the acne on the body cured 100%. But after he stopped the candida diet, the acne on the body come back again. So, he thinked about leaky gut. He did alergy test and the doctors said he dont have alergy to foods. The result of medical alergy test is negative for all foods. But in the real life, after he eat some foods, fungal acne appear on the body. He control the fungal acne using creams. If he do the candida diet, the acne dont appear.
Then tell him to stay on the "candida diet" - tell him to NOT eat gluten, sugar, processed foods, preservatives or dairy foods. SIMPLE. JUST DO NOT EAT THESE THINGS. That is not rocket science. It is just plain common sense. No-one should eat these foods anyway. They cause all sorts of problems - arthritis, skin problems, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.
Tests do NOT pick food intolerances. Tests only pick up food allergies. Food intolerances can cause acne and they cannot be tested for (at least not easily). So, the results of the allergy test are quite irrelevant, and meaningless. Your friend appears to have food intolerances, not food allergies. But the effects of his food intolerances (to gluten etc. which he DOES appear to have) are the same as if he had food allergies (which he apparently does not have).
PROBLEM SOLVED - tell your friend to NOT EAT gluten, wheat, bread, cookie, grains, rice, quinoa, sweet potato, coffee, industrialized foods, canned foods . Apart from coffee, NO-ONE should eat these foods anyway. They cause inflammation which lead to the above problems and other health problems also.
Also tell your friend to keep using the anti-fungal cream.
Is ok if he do Candida Diet everyday forever for entire all life? Is ok if he only eat chicken, fish, meat, non starched vegetables without carbs or fruits forever for entire all life? Is ok if he use antifungal cream in the skin and eat probiotic pill everyday forever for all entire life?
If my friend dont have symptoms after eat beans, oats, coconut, banana, pumpkin, he can eat these foods everyday, right?
Peter
Your friend can eat that diet (ie, chicken, fish, other meat, non starchy vegetables, beans, oats, coconut, banana, pumpkin, fruit) every day, for the rest of his life. But, tell him to not eat too much coconut - coconut contains saturated fats, and there is much debate about the benefits or otherwise of eating coconut.
The diet above is low in monounsaturated fats (which are healthy). Can your friend eat avocados (which contain monounsaturated fats) ? Can he eat tinned fish (which provides calcium) ? Tell your friend to make sure that he eats plenty of leafy green vegetables.
He may not need to use antifungal cream for the rest of his life. As a "rule of thumb", use the antifungal cream for a month or so after the skin symptoms disappear (assuming that they do disappear), and then maybe use the cream once a week or so for a while.
Your friend can take a probiotic pill for the rest of his life.
As he gets older he may wish to investigate taking different supplements for on-going health (as all people should consider doing, not necessarily for skin, but he does not have to worry about that until he is 50 years old or more).
Note that ALL vegetables and fruits contain carbohydrates, but they don't contain processed carbohydrates. Processed carbohydrates are the problem.
Note that the problem your friend has will return if he takes antibiotics or steroids. And, hopefully, he is no longer taking ibuprofen. Long term use of oral ibuprofen is dangerous. https://theconversation.com/weekly-dose-ibuprofen-just-because-its-freely-available-doesnt-make-it-safe-56346
I am not a medical doctor, nor am I a dietition. The material above is for information only. It is based on my extensive reading of the literature, personal experience, and common sense.
He cant eat avocado because cause acne in the face. He can eat fish. I asked about fungal cream for use forever for entire life only when fungal acne appears on the body. In this case, is ok to use forever, right? And is ok if he never more in the life eat: gluten, bread, rice, canned foods, industrialized foods, white sugar, coffee, cookies right? If he dont have symptoms after eat industrialized ice cream form freezer of supermarkets, is ok if he eat ice cream once a week right?
OK. The diet should be OK for ever.... It is a bit low in monounsaturated fats, but I would not worry too much about that
Your friend can use antifungal cream for the rest of his life, if necessary. Topical antifungal cream is quite safe. The fungus might become resistant to the antifungal in the cream, but don't worry about that now.
NO-ONE SHOULD EAT gluten products, including wheat or rye bread or cookies made with wheat flour, processed foods, or sugar. These are totally unnecessary foods, and they cause inflammation in one's body which leads to health problems.
There is no problem if your friend does not drink coffee or eat rice (or avocados).
Your friend should make sure he eats the bones (for calcium) in canned fish, if he does not eat dairy products.
It makes no sense that your friend can eat ice cream but not eat sugar. Ice cream is full of sugar. I would not eat ice cream because it is laden with sugar and other unnecessary and unhealthy additives.
Your friend has obviously carried out very detailed food intolerance tests to know exactly what he can or cannot eat. Must have taken him ages to do.
Could you pls STOP asking me the same questions.
Peter
The answer to your question depends on what food intolerances a person has.
I should let you know that I am not going to reply to your posts any more. I am starting to suspect that the thing is a hoax, designed to waste people's time.
Firing off questions without any context on several threads at once is a meaningless and time wasting activity. I certainly don't have time to be involved in what appears to be a hoax.
If the whole thing is not a hoax, then tell your friend to use his brains and look up food intolerances etc. on the web.
