The best thing I've ever used!
I've struggled with acne since I was about 21 when I was diagnosed with rosacea and have tried SO many different products/methods to try and shift it. I had great success with BP originally, but my skin became intolerant to it, the same thing happened with Differin after initial good results. Skip forward a couple of years and my acne is back to where it was before I started any kind of treatment, I am now approaching 31 years of age and figured I'd exhausted all of my options with regards to clearing my skin. Then I discovered azelaic acid (skinoren brand), completely by chance and thought I may as well give it a go. After only 4 weeks I started to notice the difference, I usually have approximately 5 cysts around my jaw at any one time of the month (at their worst before my period), and many smaller pimples covering the rest of my face, after approximately week 4 I noticed they weren't as angry as usual, and that as they were clearing there didn't seem to be any new ones forming to take their place. Once they had healed, and since around week 5 of treatment ... absolutely nothing! All that is left is 1 very tiny pimple which is almost healed, and my skin has never looked so smooth. It's also worth mentioning that I experienced absolutely no side effects with this product, no itching, no dryness, no flaking, no purging, nothing. I'm not sure how it works in other countries but in the UK this is available to purchase online without a doctors visit (just an online 'consultation'), for £15, which is only about £7 more than an normal prescription from a GP, but saves the inconvenience of taking time off work, trying to book/go to an appointment etc. Personally I cannot recommend azelaic acid highly enough :)

Pros:

WORKS! And quickly.

Cons:

Leaves skin a little sticky
Stings a bit

I love this stuff. My doctor prescribed it to me to use in the morning with my Benzoyl Peroxide and since that time I've noticed a difference in my skin. My skin went from having several new pimples a day to one or two a week. It stings a little and leaves the skin a but sticky to the touch BUT putting the benzoyl peroxide on after really helps. I also use Retin-A at night alone. I started at the same time at the Azelaic Acid so I think it's all three together.

Pros:

* Based on the research I did, azelaic acid is not only safe, but good for your skin.

Cons:

* Almost unbearable itching sensation for the first 30 minutes after application (this went away after 3-4 weeks)
* More expensive than BP.
* Dry skin.

I started using Finacea because I was looking for a safer alternative to BP and had read fantastic reviews here. Unfortunately after 12 weeks of twice daily use I have seen no improvement in my acne. Studies show that it can often be effective though, so I would encourage others to try it and wish you better luck than I had.

Pros:

affordable, doesn't require a prescription (I use Melazepam, which is 20% azelaic acid cream and $12 per 2oz tube), doesn't stain or bleach clothes or sheets, more effective than other topicals, no side effects

Cons:

occasional mild tingling feeling for a few minutes after application, not sure it's really helped my persistent dark spots from former zits

The best topical out there. However, for my moderate acne I've found I must apply it 2x a day and it doesn't clear my face, just keeps it more manageable. Melazepam is available over the counter for those of us without dermatologists or health insurance.

Pros:

A miracle drug! Works FAST! One application took my skin from a hot crazy mess to almost clear! Tighter pores, vanishing pimples, just an overall reversal of many types of acne. It kills acne on your face, instantly!

Cons:

None so far

There's no need to suffer the daily misery of bad skin when this drug is available! I'm almost 39 and had never experienced such terrible outbreaks. My Dr. rx'd finacea and within one application, my husband noticed my skin was "pretty, the way it used to be". This is a miracle drug that treats hormonal break-outs and all sorts of acne. I was able to attend a party that I had declined because I was too embarrassed for people to see my skin. I can't believe one gel can accomplish all that it does. I've used all sorts of treatments and this is BY FAR, the best! My skin was a sickening, grotesque mess from my hairline all the way down to my neck and finacea radically changed it in one application. My entire face was full of acne, all kinds: whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, redness, bumps. Finacea knocked it out w/one punch. I'm still shocked. Finacea is amazing. I haven't had skin like this since I was eleven years old. I'm so thankful.

Pros:

Reduces redness. Reduces inflamation. Overall smoother skin.

Cons:

Made my skin oily even the next day. Doesn't do much of anything to unclog pores. Itchiness about 5 minutes after application.

This product worked much better for me in the winter. I have rosacea, so my skin cannot tolerate more intense acne products(Ziana effed me up). I work in a hot restaraunt and the air condition doesn't work half the time, so this summer I have not been able to stay clear at all. This product does not exfoliate, and does not unclog pores, but if you suffer from inflammation or rosacea, finacea is not a bad fit. I am going to continue to use this just to prevent big zits, but I also intend on going back to my derm and giving something else a try(if there is anything I haven't tried). I feel like this medication has been clogging my pores, but is simultaneously preventing them from swelling. So I have lots of small whiteheads all the time, as opposed to a few big ones if I weren't on it. I gues its a trade off I'm willing to make for now.

Pros:

Clears acne and helps with oily skin it is also so moisturizing that my daughter doesn't need to use a moisturizer with it and her skin is extremely sensitive and very very dry to the point that i had spent a fortune at sephora in moisturizers.

Cons:

Absolutely none she says sumtimes it itches just a little but is gone after a few minutes and thats only happened a couple of times.

My daughters face is soooo clear shes thirteen and i was spending so much money trying to get her skin clear again. She uses Korres White Tea cleanser from Sephora and Azelex cream in the morning and night. Her face started clearing after a week of using the azelex cream before this she had used proactiv, clearogen, cosmedicine, ddf, erythromycin and nothing worked at all. This is truly a Miracle Cream!
