Pros:

It is wonderful- absolutely wonderful for your skin tone. I am one of the most critical people I know and my skin impresses me more every day now that I consume flaxseed oil 2-3 times a day- I hear the term "glowing" regularly from everyone around me

Cons:

Innitial breaking out. Bathroom runs :P

You might experience breaking out, especially in the beginning- if your health is in even moderately poor condition and you eat fast food regularly, don't expect this to be a wonder drug. Adding something wonderful to your sh*t-filled system is like throwing a toilet bleach tablet down the sewer.. not very effective and it certainly messes with the chemical levels of everything now doesn't it. Flaxseed oil is a potent detoxifyer that unless ur contributing to it's benefits by 1. drinking a sh*t ton of water and 2. working out (increases circulation), you are simply wasting your time. Especially if you want it to help your acne because those things are essential to begin with duh. Detoxification takes place at the pores, thusly if you're already full of crap it's gonna come out your pores- your diet is everything. So get good with it and make miracles happen! Our bodies are magnificent machines and you will find that they are very forgiving. HEAL from bad choices, your body will love it

Pros:

* Find practically anywhere
* Economical
* Omega 3 benefits

Cons:

* Must be converted into usable form by body
* Can cause acne/make it worse

Flax oil components must be assimilated by the body into Omegas which means the actual amount you receive is much lower than say, fish oil. This really isn't a problem unless you have a faulty converter system for some reason. If you want to bypass the conversion, use fish oil which is already in the form the body uses and needs no conversion. However, be aware that not using the enzymes that convert these components will end up making them slack, so I would suggest switching it up every now and then between fish oil and flax oil. For those having acne erupt from this you may be allergic or you may be using flax with lignans. If you are using the seeds, you can try an oil without the lignans included. Some oils have them included, so watch the labels. Lignans give flax oil the phytoestrogenic properties. So, if you do not want to add estrogen effects, simply choose an oil without lignans (walmart sells them without lignans). :)

Pros:

Hair looks better
Nails grow faster

Cons:

Severe cystic acne

I have tried this product for four weeks. The first week I did half a tablespoon, and I noticed my skin looked somewhat the same. I increased the dosage to 1 full tablespoon, and I got severe cystic acne. I stuck with this for four weeks thinking it may be a purging of some kind, but I have now decided to get off of it. The problem is probably with the omega 3 which comes in linolenic acid instead of EPA and DHA. Try this with caution.

Pros:

good for regularity

Cons:

allergic reaction - hives, acne-like eruption, redness, swelling, itching

i wasnt using the capsules. i was using the organic oil from a health food store. i was taking 2 tablespoons a day with food as opposed to like 4 capsules a day. the oil is supposedly better for u anyway. well, not for me! i was using the oil for a week and it ended up killing my face! i was in so much pain i was crying! i had to take benadryl to get the swelling down. so, if anyone is thinking about taking flaxseed oil, dont! or proceed with caution!

Pros:

super healthy, omega 3's, etc.

Cons:

Cystic acne, only put took for a day or two because i didn't need to try it any longer to determine that was the prob.

I have been suffering from pretty bad acne for the past 4 to 5 years (started at 25), and have bad scars mostly on my cheeks. I bought Flaxseed oil after reading about the anti-cancer benefits----big mistake but also eye opening. I took a spoonful of it one night and the next day I looked like a chipmonk, I had the largest cyst -zit that i've ever had in my life and freaked out. I finally came to the conclusion that I must be allergic to flax or something cuz i had been taking a supplement with flaxseed oil for the past four to five years. Finally, an explanation for my sudden acne issues. Basically, if you have any sort of acne situations or skin sensitivities you should check with a hollistic doctor first before taking it. By the way, since I've cut flax out of my diet the past month, i haven't had 1 zit!

Pros:

None for me!

Cons:

Oily skin with terrible breakouts from day one! Red patchy skin all over my face, lovely : (

I was recommended this by someone in a Holland and Barrett health food shop for my acne. After a few weeks of terrible skin I decided to look on acne.org to see if it was actually any good, and found all of the negative reviews...they are now in the bin!

AVOID THIS PLEASE! CAUSED CYSTIC ACNE.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Where do I begin ? I read that this product was great for acne scarring and as someone with long term acne scarring I thought why not ? Ha! Ha! This gave me the absolute worst skin of my entire life, so much so that I must create this review for anyone who doubts the reviews below. This gave me worse skin than puberty or any other thing i have ever experienced. Wow, I can laugh about it now but at the time it was not funny. My skin broke into HUGE CYSTS they almost looked like boils, they were huge and prominent, i had to call in sick for work, they were that bad. All over my face, my face became OILY, not glowy, I mean OILY as in I had to wipe it with a tissue often to get the oil off. I was very greasy and oily with huge boil looking things on my face. I did not go to work for a week till they went away. The single worst thing my skin has ever gone through. Please do not be like me and read the few positive reviews and the 'it gets better!' folks and pay attention to the people who reacted to this is there is any chance you won't be able to live with huge cysts which look like boils ALL over your face forehead, jaw, cheeks. DO NOT USE THIS.

Pros:

My hair is more lustrous and my eyelashes have gotten crazy long. Pretty surprised.

Cons:

Endless cystic pimples... 2 hours after my first spoonful of flaxseed, my nose became very greasy and within 48 hours I developed those same damned pimples. They won't go away. Even though i've decreased my flax intake steadily, they refuse to leave.

Though i do suffer from the occasional cyst-like pimple- maybe 3 a year- i have never suffered from acne per se, just basically ingrown hairs from a curly beard. Enter ground flax seed. Just (1) tablespoon daily and 6! of those SOBs in under a week. No way that's coincidence. And they love to linger longer, requiring attention for over 3 weeks now... I wanted to grab fiber, Omega 3s and lignans in one shot, but i dont think my skin or my social life can hack it much longer. I wish i would have known about this potential side effect. If i'd stopped taking it yesterday, my face would still need a few weeks to get back to normal.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: caused painful cyst
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: AVOID THIS! I normally use fish oil but I had run out and was waiting for my shipment to arrive. I knew I had flaxoil in my fridge from less than a year ago and it was not expired so I decided to take a tbsp (recommended dosage) until my order arrived. Took it one night, woke up with a under skin cyst on my left chin but that is pretty normal to have just one before my menses begins (that is the hormonal acne area). Skipped the next because I forgot. But the night after that I took another tbsp and woke up with ANOTHER cyst right next to the other one. Still did not put two and two together and then last night took another tbsp and what do ya know.. another cyst right above the 2 I got earlier. i HAVE NOT change my cleasing regimen (I use coconut oil and doterra essential oils to cleanse morning and night for over 2 months now with amazing results.. no acne hardly minus the few small ones prior to my menses) No diet changes.No lifestyle changes. Nothing out of the norm except the flax. That's how I know it was the culprit of my 3 large cyst joining forces to become ONE GIANT lump on my poor chin. I have been icing the crap out of them and luckily the swelling has gone down, but these are the kind of cyst that wont surface, they just need time to go away AND hopefully won't scar. Despite their ugly appearance.. they are SO painful. Hurts to eat, talk, smile.. ugh. Never taking flaxseed oil again ever!

Pros:

The first 2 weeks of use I notices my skin getting smoother, radiant, softer.

Cons:

The 3 week I got severe cystic acne on shoulders, neck and upper back. Terrible!

At first I wasn't sure what caused the cystic acne but did some experiments with increasing and decreasing the flax seed oil. It was very obvious flax seed was the trigger of the cystic acne. Will never eat it again!!
