Pros:

- Clears skin
- Reduces pore size
- Diminishes wrinkles
- Stops a large percentage of oil production

Cons:

- Does not work as well if you take the capsule form.
- May interact with prescription antibiotics

I had very severe acne, I then stumbled upon an article years ago and decided to try it out. It worked wonders. I no longer wake up running to the mirror to see how much worse it has gotten like I use to do. I wake up pretty (as some of my friends say). I highly recommend this for OILY acne sufferers. To help explain my cons comment, the capsule doesn't release slowly into your system like a caplet would. I highly recommend a caplet form because they are digested slower than the gelatin capsule. Also you don't want to over drink your vitamin when you take it. This is going to flush the B5 out of your system because its water soluble. You should drink water through out the day. If you are taking certain medications like antibiotics I noticed that these interact with the B5 poorly. I am not sure why but when I took Doxycycline for a few months (for malaria prevention) it made my skin worse. I am not a doctor, however I know it has some weird interactions for some reason. Just consider this when taking prescriptions.

Another update, I still take B5 every day. I don't mind if I need to take this supplement for the rest of my life. Everyone comments on how beautiful my skin is. Everyone asks me what's the secret to my perfect complexion. Every time I tell them it's my B5 and B3 regime. It's funny to think people are asking me for skin advice when my skin was god awful years ago. At the time I made this review I think I was taking 10 grams a day, which I still do. I am taking less B3 though, I usually take 2 grams a day. If you're looking for a good acne treatment I recommend trying B5 for a month. You'll be convinced after a week, trust me.

Pros:

none

Cons:

no less oil production,
dry itchy scalp
hair loss

I am an 18 year old college freshman and I have mild/ moderate acne and it's enough to make me obsess. I wanted to cure my acne SO badly so i started taking B5, I only got up to about 6 grams and only could stay on it for about 10 days because i've noticed my hair falling out A LOT! I am not trying to be a downer, i've heard this stuff works wonders and that losing hair is rare, but it does happen. I am stopping taking the vitamin today and hopefully my hair will thicken back up. I also saw positive results for my oily skin and this is probably because I haven't been on it long enough! But i'm not going to lose my hair due to this vitamin.

Pros:

Zits are gone.
Reduced oil.

Cons:

None, except having to take several pills and price.

Early twenties whole-life acne sufferer here. I took accutane for 3 months, but had to stop due to side effects. I took accutane even thought I didn't have much acne, but when I got zits they lingered for too long. So I started to take B5 after reading reviews, and they were right. I take 2 grams morning and night, and my oil production has gone down (still get a bit of an oily nose when wake up), and zits are gone. I did get two tiny ones since taking B5 but they disappeared within 1 day and that never happened even during accutane. Accutane works but serious side effects (horrible headache and ringing in ear) do exist and so far (1 month in) B5 has worked amazingly well. Oh and I highly recommend capsules over tablets, digests much better.

Pros:

gets rid of oil, not a scam!! try it!!

Cons:

takes time though, depends on acne severeness obviously

from inflammatory acne to non inflammatory acne (dime sized cysts, whiteheads, u name it), i have suffered acne for 5 years. i tried everything from over-the-counter treatments to doctor visits, until finally i decided to do some research myself and i came across clear5 on the internet. At first i started to think that maybe it wasnt going to work, but after three weeks i began to see results!! i have been taking it a little over a month now and it actually works!! try it!! i am a believer!!!!

Pros:

It worked wonders for me. It is very cost effective. No discernible side effects.

Cons:

Taking many pills a day.

I had pretty severe cystic acne that really didn't get cleared with any topical acne medication. Antibiotics worked but I didn't want to continue taking antibiotics for an extended period of time. That's when I read about B5 online and decided to try it. I used it for about 3 months the first time. I took about 2-3 g per day. It took about 1 month to first notice the difference. The effect was sustained for about 6 months after stopping the regimen but then slowly it came back. So I started up the B5 again, same dose, and I noticed the effect within 2 weeks. I took it again for about 3 months and stopped. It went away for about 1 year before it started coming back again at which point I started using it a third time. I noticed the B5 working within a week the third time and I stopped again after 3 months. It's been 2 years and I am still acne free. So for people who might think it's not working...you may want to stick with it a little longer.

Pros:

stop using proactiv to control acne THANKS to vitamin B5. My face is NOT oily, so far is the best oral vitamin i ever took.

Cons:

haven't experience it yet, hair loss?

if you have bad acne, take 10 GRAMS of vitamin B5 everyday. First, start off with 2-3 grams for the first week to get your system use to it, then next following week bump it up to 10 grams. IT IS BETTER THAN FISH OIL OMEGA 3.

It works but don't overdoze too much!
Hi! I tried Vitamin B5 for over a year and I saw some improvement. It kind of calmed my skin all over and took the edge of my acne and rosacea. However I still had a lot of blackheads, and cysts and zits would still pop up here and there. You need to take a lot of it to really see a difference, but taking 10-20 grams of Vitamin B5 a day is very bad for you in the long run (it can damage your body and give you chronic headache). I would stay around 5 grams of vitamin B5 and ad a few other things. I found a really great regime on this website: [link removed] My skin has never looked better!

Pros:

Completely cured my acne!!!
Stops oily skin.

Cons:

Dry hands and skin.

I have literally tried everything for my acne including: accutane, antibiotics, yasmin, diane, differin, spironolactone, zinc supplements, blue light therapy, but vit b5 has worked the best. I started taking 3000 mg a day two weeks ago, and i noticed my skin starting to improve after day 3. It has a similar effect to Accutane without the awful side effects. I find 3000 mg works for me but might try downing the dosage to see what happens. I really can't believe how affective this is. I used to have mild cystic acne on my back and i no longer have any cystic acne. I am so grateful that I found this on this site. I am going to ask my naturopath to see if there are any bad side effects to doing this long term. I use the GNC brand.

Pros:

-Reduces oil
-Prevents breakouts
-Boosts energy
-Seems to improve sebum quality so pores are less likely to become clogged

Cons:

-Annoying if you're not someone who likes taking pills
-Can cause nausea if not taken with food
-Smelly, bright green urine
-Expensive

I noticed an improvement within days of using pantothenic acid. I currently take 2 grams of pan acid a day, 1 gram with breakfast and 1 with dinner, along with a b-50 pill. Kal Pan makes a timed release version so that you only need to take two big pills a day, and this seems to work more consistently as well. I would recommend this supplement to anyone who is experiencing severely oily skin
