A more dangerous way of using benzoyl peroxide that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. However, when used properly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin without the addition of antibiotics.

Pros:

Friend gave me a coupel of packets to try, within three days I saw results. Best I used ever. Got a pescription from my doc. Now I am totally hooked.

Cons:

A little messy, but dont rub it in, just one swipe of thin layer.

It just works!!!

Pros:

This was the best topical I ever used, until it was discontinued in the UK (why i'll never know). It consistently kept my skin clear

Cons:

There might have been a bit of dryness, but not much at all. It also has a strange consistency and it has to be mixed but thats it really.

The best topical. Left wondering what else there is that will be as good as this.

Brilliant stuff - works really well, I am having problems getting hold of it too - the Chemist told me that it will be back in production in 2007 - no ideas which month though - any one heard any different?

Pros:

I notived improvement after a few nights of usage. The pimples started to slowly fade away.

Cons:

The dryness of course. Rather be a little dry than pimply though. Is rather expensive if your insurance does not cover it. In Toronto I paid $10 CAN after my college drug plan coverage.

My acne is mild, but my skin, especially in the cheek area, has become uneven over the years, not red, just not as smooth as I want it to be. This stuff helps improve skin texture. I actually just purchased another container so I shall soon see whether it is as good as I thought it is. I guess it's important to use it daily and consistently, not miss a dose and all. I'm thinking also about washing my face less often as that adds to the dryness.

Pros:

Pretty cheap with my insurance

Cons:

REALLY dries out skin. Def can't use if you love to tan. And also does burn. I could see results as little as a week.

But did clear my skin alot. I would recommend to use if you think nothing else works. I thought nothing would work because i have tried everything. But then my doctor recommended this.

Pros:

Reduces # of blemishes

Cons:

BURNS. Good grief. This stuff really hurts. My skin's so dry and flaky. Not even moisturizer is helping.

Eh. I don't know how much longer I can stay on this. It's too painful and turns my face red.

Pros:

quite affordable, and clears acne

Cons:

really dries out your face

i tried this with mixing it with vinegar and put it on my face as a mask for 2 dies, reapplying as needed and then went off for one week, then i did it again over and over. One night i woke up and all my nasties were gone!!!

Pros:

It works very quickly and amazed my Doctor after 10 years of unsuccessful treatment.

Cons:

Has to be stored in a fridge.

I haven't been able to get a new supply and my face has erupted. I had get used to having no acne and so hope they start manufacturing again for the UK.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
