Love lavender oil!
I'm in my mid 30s and have battled acne most of my adult life. I've been on Acutane TWICE and a handful of oral antibiotics, skin cleansers, gels, creams.. You name it, I've used it. Recently I started getting really bad breakouts around a the sides of my mouth and down my chin and discovered it was possibly a new reaction to lip moisturizer. I googled coconut oil for skin to see if that would be a good replacement for my lips, but would it cause acne? Low and behold, people have used coconut oil for acne for years! Who would've thought using oil would help acne prone skin, but I guess supplying your skin's moisture means your skin won't over produce its own, AND coconut oil has antiseptic properties! I put a small container of food-grade coconut oil, mixed with some lavender oil for its anti-inflammatory properties, in my bathroom and I massage a small amount over my entire face after cleansing before bed. AMAZING! I can honestly say that my skin has NEVER in my 37 years been so clear. Yippee! Hope this helps someone else out there struggling with acne!

THANKS I WILL ATTEMPT THIS

I just wanted to comment on this review because of personal experience with acne prone skin and coconut oil. I am SO glad that it has worked for you, and truly hope it continues to. I was once told that coconut oil is a great moisturizer for your skin, acne or not. However unrefined and refined coconut oil is proven to clog pores, unlike 100% unrefined shea butter which DOES NOT clog pores. Anyways, I attempted the coconut oil for no less than three months, because you do have to give new "treatments" at least 12 weeks to work, and got the worst breakouts I have ever had! So I am basically saying everyone has different skin and reacted differently, and that coconut oil may not do for one acne prone user, that it does for another.

Pros:

Non-greasy.
Soaks into skin immediately.
Soothing.
Stops breakouts before they start.
Relieves redness.
100% Natural

Cons:

Some people may not like the smell; I do not mind it.

I love lavender oil. I recently started changing the products I use on my skin and going all natural, I thought it would make me break out, but it's instead made a HUGE improvement to the overall health of my skin. I bought my lavender at a whole foods co-op, it was on sale so I got .5 ml of it for about 8 dollars, usually it is 13. It is organic, and undiluted. I put it on my face undiluted directly after washing in the morning and before I go to bed at night. Avoid the eye area. I haven't had a single breakout since I've started using it, it's been just over a week. And the breakouts I did have are gone or so small they are essentially non-existant. I'd have to say though my favorite part of using this product is how my skin looks in the morning. I have scars and my skin usually looks dull and red when I wake up, since I've been using lavender oil it looks plump, clearer each day, with significantly less redness, and my pore size is much smaller. It may not work for you, however I'd really give it a chance. I'm 25 years old and it's taken me this long to figure out that all natural is the way to go. If you're young you can start now.

Pros:

* Cleared up all acne in one month
* Calming smell
* Affordable and natural !

Cons:

* Some would say smell only because it's potent, but I enjoy it !
* Virtually NONE

I never suffered from cystic acne my entire life until age 24/25. I would occasionally get a pimple/zit here or there in highschool the most at one time being maybe 4..? and that's probably because I had a horrible/no regimine for face washing. I am a very tidy, 'neat freak' like person so when I started to get acne in my mid 20's I was devistated. First I tried Tersaseptic as a wash and I found it too drying. I was using Clean and Clear "Oil Free" Dual Action Moisturizer and this combo showed no results. Second, I tried the Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System.. The moisterizer it came with I found left my skin filmy. I was also using Benzoil Peroxide 5%. I didn't really see results and my skin became very tender and flaky. I switched to 2.5% BP and didn't notice much difference. Third, I bought Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser which seemed to calm my skin, so that it was no longer sore, but I still had cysts that weren't wanting to dissipate. I started researching natural oils and their benefits for skin and health. I had purchased Rosemary oil originally to use in bath soaks for my circulation. I tried using some on my acne cysts and it seemed to be taking the inflamation down. I continued research on oils for acne and came across Clove Oil and Lavender oil. I used Clove Oil (1 drop to an oz of water) as a spot treatment. Now, Clove Oil BURNS quite bad, but it helped clear up the cysts within a week. Then I discovered the wonders of Lavender Oil(Brand: Aura Cacia 100% Pure Essential Oil) and Pure Aloe Vera liquid(Brand:Aubrey Organics). My routine for 1 month has now been: 1) Wash with Cetaphil for Oily Skin. Pat Dry. 2) Put a quarter size amount of Aloe Vera liquid with 1-2 drops of Lavender in palm, rub hands together and gentle rub on face. 3) I changed my moisterizer to Neutrogena Healthy Skin w/spf 15 My skin is completely cleared, and almost all of my scars have faded ! I recommend at least tryin

I love lavender
This is great for dabbing on post pimple red spots, it cleared mine in about a week and I had 5 or 6 on one of my cheeks. I take some damp q-tips, put a few drops of lavender oil on my clean hand and just dip a little of it on the qtip and apply ONLY to spots. I have tried to use it all over my face and found it to be irritating. But it is a very potent essential oil and very fragrant. So be careful. But I'm still giving it 5 stars because I use it for so many other things: few drops in my bath, a drop on my pillow to aid sleep, natural deodorant, stress reliever (rub some in hands and inhale deeply) I love the scent of lavender. I've even gotten my boyfriend hooked and every night he asks for some on his pillow!

Fantastic so far
I have been experiencing adult acne for 1 year now, and tried several products but none of them worked. I tried steaming my face pouring some drops of 100% lavender oil inside the water, since the second time of steaming, improvement could be rated as 70% clearer face skin than before using. Never tried to apply it directly on my skin, I am afraid of break outs, but even with steaming every week it has done wonders for me. I strongly recommend at least trying it.

Pros:

it reduces redness and it makes breakouts go away very fast
it prevents new pimples and it helps with the oily skin
it makes your skin glow and it smells very nice

Cons:

doesn't help with the cysts

IT WORKS! I have read many reviews of many products over the years and I have to say I have tried pretty much all of them. Accutane, several antibiotics, gels, ointment of all sorts and nothing seemed to work. So after trying lemon, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil which helped but not completely I decided to try Lavender Oil. The results were amazing! My skin got clearer in a week! I use it twice a day every morning and at night before I sleep. I boil some water and I make a toner using about 10 drops in 100 ml. I have some breakouts, especially while on PMS but nothing like before, they go away very fast. Also my skin has a glow and it looks younger, I have no wrinkles yet but it has erased all the expression lines on my forehead. People noticed and told me I look so radiant! It doesn't sting and it helps you relax as well. I sleep better now! The only drawbacks are that it is not as effective on my back as on the face but it made back acne better too. And it does not help with the cysts but for that I use a 2,5% benzoyl peroxide gel whenever there is one instead of using it all over my face 4-5 times a week. It is a little expensive because it is organic (14-15 Euros a bottle, 10 ml) but it lasts at least two months. .

If you're putting it in water to use as a toner just make sure you shake the bottle well before using it, because oil doesn't dissolve in water. I had an old 1 ml bottle with a dropper. I put in some of my cerave face lotion (to emulsify the mixture), distilled water to make it much thinner, and added essential oils. I use it like a serum.

Pros:

smells great, inexpensive, all natural, calming and non-irritating

Cons:

none

My medical esthetician used this at the end of my last 2 treatments on a couple of active breakouts that I had. By the next morning, the pimples were not inflamed and completely dried up (with a slight patch of dry skin over the top). I will be buying some lavendar oil for spot treatment soon!

Pros:

Cheap
Effective
Doesn't irritate skin
Reduces redness and inflammation
Non-greasy

Cons:

Smell is fairly pungent, but in a nice way

My experience is that lavender oil is great for clearing up existing spots, preventing new ones, and reducing the redness of spots. It also apparently has a rejuventating effect on the skin which helps reduce acne scarring. I use it undiluted on my skin - this might not suit everyone, but you get the strongest effect this way. Be careful not to get it near your eyes as it can make them water. It has a cooling effect on the skin, and does not sting or irritate. Even though it is an oil, it is not greasy at all. In fact, my skin is left feeling like it did after washing - it sinks into the skin and leaves no trace. Otherwise you could use it neat on spots, and just mix a drop with your regular moisturiser. The best thing about lavender oil is that compared to other acne treatments, my spots don't flare up before they clear up. Half the problem with acne is just how red the spots are - if you can reduce the redness they are a lot less visible. And unlike other treatments, there has been no dryness or flakiness. 100% natural and highly recommended!
