Pros:

Clears up acne
Reduces oily skin
Reduces blocked pores and blackheads
Contraceptive

Cons:

Contraceptive (Pro and con)
No cons while taking dianette, however after coming off it, I have been having the worst time of my life!

I took dianette for 13 years. Whilst taking it, I thought it was amazing! I never had to worry about acne, I didn't have any, it cleared it up within weeks. Although I was on it for a long time, my doctor told me it was safe, so I continued taking it, as it worked so well. I decided to come off it to give my body a break. Within a couple of weeks, I noticed my skin and hair became extremely oily! My skin would be oily within a couple of hours of cleansing, and same for my hair after shampooing. I started getting some blackheads but nothing major for the first 4 to 5 months. Then after approximately 4 to 5 months my acne started to come back with avengance! In addition to the extreme oiliness, I have moderately severe acne all over my face. I also have gotten really hairy with increased facial hair around the moustache, chin and cheek areas, and also body hair particularly around my nipples. It took 13 months before I started to get periods again after coming off it. I have been tested for PCOS and all came back clear. I am at my wits end. I have tried other things like Zineryt, Duac, Tetralysal, Skinoren since coming off Dianette but nothing has worked. My advice is not to go on it in the first place. While everything might seem ok whilst your taking it, when you come off it, your acne will come back worse than before.

Pros:

Awesome skin(no spots at all), helped with hirsutism, bigger boob during first month(in my case it was a plus)

Cons:

libido loss, increased apetite(if I didn't care about my weight i'd eat all the time)

Before Diane 35(or dianette) I used all the antibiotics available as well as accutane. I had severe bacne (no acne on my face though), i got rid off it but after I stopped taking accutane that s**t stared to come back. my kidneys are in bad condition so i couldn't afford the second treatment with accutane,my doctor prescribed me diane35 and i'm gratefull.

Worth it
I wrote a review for dianette on this site a long time ago and feel compelled to write another because I think it might be helpful for some people if I shared my mixed experience of it. Firstly, I've suffered with acne since I was about 12. It's ranged from mild to severe and I've tried almost every treatment you can think of to try to remedy it bar accutane. The only thing that has worked long term has been the pill. The only types of pill that have worked have been dianette and (to a lesser degree) Yasmin. I've been on dianette three times previously. The first time I didn't notice a huge amount of side effects but it got rid of the acne very effectively. The second and third times were incredibly difficult for the first four or five months. I grew very very depressed, very angry, my libido plummeted, and I became very bloated. Perhaps worst of all though, my skin experienced horrendous initial breakouts, much much worse than it had been before I went on the pill. And it's that side effect in particular that made me very wary of trying dianette again after I had a break from it even though it cleared up my skin beautifully. About two years ago I decided that I wanted to come off the pill altogether. I had been on Yasmin, my skin was very clear and I thought that maybe if I came off it, it would stay clear. Within about a month though my face was breaking out, and the acne got very bad again. My period also stopped for a few months and a scan revealed that I had PCOS. I was recommended going back on the pill to deal with the side effects of the condition (acne, thinning hair, and irregular periods) but I was so worried about that awful initial few months that I couldn't face it. I perserved for another year or so, and my skin just kept getting worse and my confidence was being destroyed by it. I didn't want to leave my house. At work I couldn't look anyone in the eye. It was horrible. So in the end I caved - I just thought, whatever side effect I have to deal with nothing can be worse than feeling like this every day. And the strangest thing was - no initial breakout. My skin just cleared up, very quickly. I should say at this point that I coupled taking it for the first three weeks with oral antibiotics, which I think may have really helped, and used topical antibiotics on my face at night. But seriously, the horrible, painful breakout I'd been so afraid of didn't materialise and two months in, my skin is almost completely clear. I'm sorry for the very long post but I really wanted to share it with anyone who might be considering going back on dianette or trying it for the first time but feeling worried about the side effects. I'm not sure why they haven't effected me this time around but I think it's worth saying. And if you're struggling just give it a go, because life really is too short.

Pros:

Clears Acne

Cons:

Takes a LONG time to work
Initial break out
Mood swings/ weight gain likely

Ok I hated Dianette at first, all I did was break out really bad. You have to realise it will take months! But now, after sticking it out for six months my skin is finally clear!! I do find it really cleared my acne, its just so hard to stick with it with the initial break out. I also find it made me paranoid about my weight but yeah i dont know if thats just me.

Pros:

Clears up acne
Less painful periods and little flow

Cons:

There were none until I stopped, acne worse than ever!!!

Like the other women i have been on this pill for ten years. A few months ago I decided to come off it like others to give my body a break. Throughout my time on it I had no issues apart from I didn't see a massive reduction in my hair growth but was delighted with my acne clearing up and my periods being very light and not painful. I wished I never stopped taking this as now my skin is terrible again, worse than ever. I am now back on Dianette as the doctor said there was no other tablets that he could suggest with my symptoms.

Pros:

cleared skin

Cons:

weight gain
huge, sore breasts
uncomfortable pain in joints

I started taking this pill in school and it worked wonders for me almost instantly. Over the year I was on it though, whilst I gained confidence in the way my skin looked, I hit rock bottom with my body. I went up 2 or 3 dress sizes and didn't lose it for a good 2-3 years afterwards. I also found if I leant on one leg, then it would become really sore all of a sudden. This pain evaporated as soon as I came off Dianette. If you don't mind weight gain, go for it because it completely cleared my skin. Although, I found it cured one problem, but it just created another.

Pros:

None yet

Cons:

MASSIVE decrease in sex drive
Mood swings
Ravenously hungry (anticipating weight gain)

Have only been on this for two weeks... But already I'm facing horrible side effects. My sex drive is nil. I'm constantly uncomfortably hungry, and I'm used to having quite a small appetite. I don't think I've ever felt so out of control emotionally, feeling depression in a big way. Despite this, I know a girl who was totally cured of her acne on Dianette, so it's subjective I guess.

It works!
I tried dianette last year for 3 months last year and came off it as saw no real improvement. Then decided to give it another go a few months later as the Dr advised it can take a while to see the benefits....now I have done 6 months Iv seen a sudden genuine massive improvement! My skin is consistently clear, I can't believe it, I'm 31, this is the first time since a teen that I have no outbreaks at all. Iv also recently started taking it at bedtime rather than morning, not sure if any science behind that but I'm sticking with that regime to keep the balance in case that is a factor. I recommend try 6 months + for anyone feeling impatient!

Pros:

Cleared up skin completely
Bigger breasts
Less painful periods at first
Free on the NHS
More confidence from clearer skin

Cons:

Severe PMS (severe iritability and anxiety)
Extremely painful periods after a few months
Dry skin
Slight weight gain

I have had side effects but at the end of the day my skin is clear. Now I have no spots on my face and back. I've had acne for years and I'm just happy that it's finally gone. The main thing for me is that I feel that anyone with a mental health problem (e.g depression, generalised anxiety disorder) or has had a mental health problem should think twice about using this tablet as it severly affects your moods.

Pros:

Does improve acne

Cons:

In my opinion it causes mood swings
Skin flares up worse than before when you stop taking it

If you want to be on the pill for contraceptive reasons then it may be worth using dianatte although it is likely that your skin will flare up again once you stop using the pill - in my case apx 3 months afterwards. Not a long term solution and def not a cure .
